WCMUT....what cheered me up today

No, the best way to make milk is to get a cow/goat/mammal of choice...

Those of us of a certain age, who attended Newspaper Society training courses, will always remember the cautionary tale of the bull and the boss's wife...

It seems that said proprietor's missus visited the markup department and saw the layout for a story about the local county show's "Best Of" winner. Apparently, the four legged gentleman's stance illustrated clearly what all the fuss was about, him being the proud father of many dozens of happy cows and bulls. The lady berated the editor and demanded the picture be changed, only to be informed that it was the only such picture available. In which case, she demanded, the picture must be altered to remove the offensive part. Her husband being out of touch and the print deadline looming, the unhappy editor instructed the blockmakers to make the alteration.

Within a few hours of the edition appearing, the bull's apoplectic owner demanded a front page retraction and apology. The proprietor still being incommunicado, his lady wife refused on the grounds that "her husband's newspaper did not publish filth". The case came before the court a few months later, when the farmer received damages at an eyewatering level, for what was seen by the judge as an egregious insult to the owner of the "trimmed" animal, which had brought him into disrepute with his neighbours and made him the butt of numerous unsavoury witticisms.

So sex changes of any sort can lead to unexpected and indeed, painful consequences! :naughty:

There is a shopping area within CMK called Lloyds court, the reason being that a certain bank was the first business to open there.
They commissioned a statue of a certain horse, and the brief to the local artist was to make an exact scale replica of their logo.
at "full size"
Of course the barely visible innocuous little brush stroke at the rear end became something of a talking point :D
"Sadly" it was rectified fairly quickly.

WCMUT was a good news letter from the diabetic eye screening place - no sign of any problems. Just waiting for the eye pressure test results now but expecting the all clear from them too.

Getting my new fridge freezer delivered on time. They are half the weight of the old ones! I bet it doesn't last twenty years, like the old one!!!

We have a chest freezer that my mum gave us, she had it for a good few years before she gave it to us. We've had it 34 years. Still going strong.

Previous upright freezer I had for around 40 years, I bet my current one couldn't last that long and don’t start me on electric kettles! :)

We have a chest freezer that is still working fine after 29 years, apart from the lid won't stay open and the light is broken. When we bought it I said to the shop assistant that I wanted one big enough to get the mother in law in without having to remove her head. I still get grief for that comment!

Last week we had a new washing machine delivered and installed. The old one, we worked out, was well over 20 years old. It was still working well but increasing noisy when spinning so we thought it might breakdown at any moment. Hope the new one(which is wonderfully quiet) lasts as long.

Yes, my previous one was at least 25 years old and for its first 5+ years was used several times a day -- maybe that helped it last or at least would have shown any faults!

WCMUT

I had my car insurance renewal and phoned them as the increase from last year was 15.3% ~ ouch!

The Customer Service Agent I spoke too, when I explained why I was calling i.e. why such a big increase, unbidden offered me with no changes to the policy a figure that was about 9.5%

I said that was much better thank you but wished it was lower.......I then asked her about the "Estimated yearly mileage" I explained that has been too high for a while (12,000) but based on my miles driven in the past year (I excluded 2020 due to COVID effect) the figure should be 8000 if that high ? !

Well, the computer spate out a revised figure that was £0.89 higher than I paid last year i.e. a 0.24% increase:D

PS I discussed with her, in the unlikely event that I have underestimated the yearly mileage I would let them know.....she advising that any increased figure would be in regard to the remainder of the year i.e. not backdated.

Ain't Mother Nature wonderful?!!!

Well, it put enough back in the butt for a couple of days worth of watering as well as spreading the dust on the cars...

Not even a drip here so far!

Only enough to barely wet the ground.....................if it had rained steadily but gently for a few hours I would have been delighted but no, not yet :(

It has drizzled here most of the day, our weatherstation says we have only had 0.05 inch of rain though.

I've just read something on the net and I just can't stop laughing at it. I don't even have to read it now, just think about it. I'd love to post it but... it's a bit offensive to people who think they're right about everything... So sorry :D But it's just so funny :D

Would that include you Alan?

Well I do know a lot as I'm highly intelligent and of course this makes sure that I'm very nearly always right. Mrs WW would probably admit I do know a lot but according to her I only know "useless things."

Mrs WW doesn't even care what a Nippon Kogaku 50mm f2 is.

Bit difficult when you have a 7month old labradoodle on your lap, in a confined space, even with a phone
This one was taken a couple of months ago, she's grown a bit since then

Labradoodles are good value.

Our neighbours had one and when they moved away, there was serious discussion of offering a home to one - even though we'd been a cats only family for 50 years! :naughty:

I really wasn't sure if it's ok to post this here but it made me laugh. So..it's here as a 'funny' not as a serious comment which could be included in a dedicated thread in HT. So, please read and see it for what it is intended to be...a light-hearted heads up.

I read an article today about the Education Authority in Texas withdrawing as many as 41 books over the past year from schools' reading lists as a result of objections from some parents. The latest withdrawal happened in Fort Worth . One was 'The Diary of Ann Frank'. Some parents thought it should only be read when the child was with an adult. No ages were mentioned. I haven't read it but knowing the story and the eventual outcome I can see why parents would see it as upsetting for children. Another was Tom Morrison's book 'The Bluest Eye' which contains accounts of racism and incest. The Republican governor, Greg Abbott, ordered books with overtly sexual content to be removed. He was referring to LGBT content. However, it wasn't the withdrawal of these books that that made me laugh, it was this one.

One of the books that was on the reading list (now withdrawn) that drew criticism was the Bible. It seems a few objections were made by parents because it included.....

"sexual content, violence, rape, murder, incest, human sacrifice, misogyny, homophobia, discrimination and other inappropriate content"

I rest my case :ROFLMAO:
