WCMUT....what cheered me up today

WCMUT? I managed to get a 2022 Diary from Cardzone on the Moor, well in order to get it for a quid, I had to buy 3... I only wanted 2, one for myself, one for Mum. Also, I managed to walk all the way down to Argos in Sainsbury's on the Moor and buy a 32 Gig SDHC card for my new camera for £8.99. Also, I took 2 old cameras to Oxfam on West St and they took them to sell, plus a collection of various books I don't use including programming and comedy books.

Mrs Nod will need that car warm up tomorrow. -5C forecast for Gloucestershire and I think the same for you.

All reprogrammed and lovely and warm this morning! Well, I assume so since it wasn't frosted over at 06:30!

I had to scrape every window at 9.30am ... still -2C on the (very) sunny south coast!

What annoyed me today (I know, patience … ) was Maureen Lipman complaining that Helen Mirren was chose to play Golda Meir in a film on the grounds Mirren is not Jewish.

I had a ‘feeling’ about this and WCMUT was that Maureen Lipman played that famous Jewish U.K. Prime Minister — no not Disraeli, who was Christian anyway — but Margaret effing Thatcher .

This business of actors only being able to play ’themselves’ has always been ridiculous as it’s the opposite of what acting is. I look forward to seeing Jewish actors clamouring to play Fagin or Shylock and refusing to play Gentiles etc.

(I’ll just add this isn’t a Jewish thing, it’s mostly been ’black’ or ‘disabled’ parts that have attracted this nonsense in the past :()

I don't agree with Lipman that Mirren should not play Meir because the actress isn't a jewess.

On the other hand, as Meir is a historical figure, well known from film and still pictures, Mirren shouldn't be cast because she's physically the wrong type. To do so would be akin to casting Ron Moody as Churchill - it just wouldn't work for anyone who's ever seen pictures of the original. If I were going to suggest appropriate actresses, Brenda Blethyn or Caroline Quentin come to mind as more credible types.

Yes, you may have a point there. I think of Meir looking more like a bulldozer than a whippet . I think Bruce Willis should play her. However now you’re into thin people shouldn’t play fat and so on. I always wonder how “The Elephant Man” would be cast nowadays. Really it’s up to the playwright or director etc. Someone might have reason to cast an actor specifically against physical type to express some feature of a character.

I bought Iron Lady on DVD from a Charity shop, wasn't that Meryl Streep who played Thatcher?

A mate of mine was involved in a VERY small way on Water - he was one of the highways department people who checked out any footpaths that may have needed to be closed temporarily when they were shooting the bits in North Devon.

One of my favourite comedies. It didn't harm that George Harrison ran Handmade and was able to put together the "Song for Cascara" scene by calling in his friends, who worked for token payments.

Ironically the same week I suffer from a virus (Covid) one of my youtube motorhome videos also went viral, well in relative terms to my other ones lol.
Cheered me up anyway.

I just found out at my MA class that one of my good friends who's a belt above me's not that much younger than me, she's 40 and I'm 46 in April, I thought she was quite a bit younger than that, I'd have said mid to late 20s, she was quite flattered lol.

Mrs WW's cousin in Thailand sent her a short video their little boys teacher had taken of him on her phone at school. The conversation went as follows...

Teacher "What would you like to eat?"
Little boy "False spider."
Teacher "False spider? We don't have that. What else would you like?"
Little boy "Fried rice and cat armpit hair."
That ended the conversation :D

I thought he might have said this because of some game at home but his parents said they had no idea where he got this from, he just made it up on his own :D

I do find it interesting that the teacher filmed the kid and the parents are perfectly fine with it as in this country there would probably have been a loud scream followed by the parents sobbing "My God! She filmed our child! Cancel her!"

I have a lot of trouble guessing ages.

Yeah, I don't know if you watch Neighbours, the Aussie soap, but Colette Mann, who plays Sheila Canning, is 72 next month according to Wikipedia, but I don't think she looks it, she's rather attractive for her age IMO,

Never seen it.

I remember a TV show years ago and they interviewed an absolute babe in a bikini on a beach in South America, I'd have said she was maybe 30, and she was... over 60 :D Just shows what good living and exercise can do or maybe just good genes :D

She did say she gets chatted up by much younger guys a lot :D

There's also April Rose Pengilly on Neighbours, plays Chloe Brennan, according to Wikipedia she's 34 in April, but she looks about 27 if that.

Yet another chuckle this time a description for a coffee machine on Amazon.

Human interface inputButtons

A mate who worked for the Saudi air force as ground crew said that pilot problems were described as SSI problems - seat/stick interface.

Computer technical support :

PEBCAK 'Problem exists between chair and keyboard'
I know that one as PICNIC

Problem In Chair Not In Computer

:D

I managed to go up to Weston Park Museum and take loads of photos (which I may post after tea), all it cost me was the price of a coffee, a small donation to the Museum, and £3.85 Uber fare to get there (got a Bus and a Tram back Home)

What cheered me up today was managing to figure out how to clone / healing brush between images in Affinity photo
I’m not exactly a fast learner with software  I’m gradually moving over from an old version of photoshop to affinity
Almost there now and am finding that although Affinity does some things better than photoshop, cloning between images in affinity does seem to be overly complicated

Fish and chips with scraps on from a local shop. I can't remember the last time I had them, months and months maybe. They were lovely with salt, vinegar and ground pepper and there's a lot left for tomorrow.

It sad we don't get 'scraps' in the chippy here, always a wee highlight on ventures south of the border.

Good deed for the New Year done already.

This morning, at Tesco checkout, I was behind an older lady in the queue. Her total came to £56 but when she tried to pay, her card was repeatedly declined.

I've had a pretty good 2021 financially and also thought about my own Gran and hoped that someone would help her out in a similar situation.

The old lady didn’t want me to help her but I insisted, and in no time at all, we had all her shopping back on the shelves.
Let's try and help each other out more in 2022. ❤️❤️❤️

I ordered something from Amazon Market place that had 100% 5* reviews.
It arrived on Monday along with a card inviting me to claim a £15 Amazon voucher if I did the same,

Refund authorised and said 5 to 7 days, check the account this morning and the money is already back

Cheeky git!

They are pretty good like that, I've never waited more than 2 days :)

WCMUT was seeing a Red Kite. Not too common down here yet but hopefully they'll start settling. Just the one spotted, being mobbed by a corvid. Luckily, I was stopped waiting for a couple of cars to pass so could grab enough of a look to make a definite ID.

A mate who worked for the Saudi air force as ground crew said that pilot problems were described as SSI problems - seat/stick interface.
Pilot note from post flight check - Evidence of hydraulic fluid leak on undercarriage.
Engineer's note - Evidence removed!

Email fro Amazon:

The expected change regarding the use of Visa credit cards on Amazon.co.uk will no longer take place on January 19. We are working closely with Visa on a potential solution that will enable customers to continue using their Visa credit cards on Amazon.co.uk.  Should we make any changes related to Visa credit cards, we will give you advance notice. Until then, you can continue to use Visa credit cards, debit cards, Mastercard, American Express, and Eurocard as you do today.Thank you for being an Amazon customer.

That cheered me up because I switched to a Master card Debit , got my £20 from Amazon, and shall now switch back. Perhaps they’ll offer another £20 if these talks fall through.

Edit to add: I thought they might refuse my setting Visa as a default currently, but no problem.

Seeing the wonderful photos of the Egret and Redshank when i logged into the site this morning.

Well, that had to be a record !
Amazon return collected at 10:40 today.
Refund issued @ 12:30 today!

What was even better, it was collected via Hermes, yeah I know, as my thoughts on the local courier are well known.
Today was a chap, different vehicle.
It seems "she" has left...
I wonder if she jumped or was pushed.

WCMUT- Getting my money back for repairs to a car sold to me with a faulty clutch which I had to get repaired myself. Thank you small claims court mediation service. I doubt that the dealer would have paid up without their help. Moral of the story - Don't accept "We've checked it and it is OK and you have the free warranty to fall back on even if it isn't." (as the free warranty doesn't cover wear and tear items). If it's broke before they sell it, it is up to them to fix it. (Sale of goods act - fit for purpose) And breathe!

WCMUT? more of a chuckle really.

I've got a lot of pigeons around here, both feral and woodies.
I have a semi hidden ground feeder cage for the LBJ's. ( as well as hanging feeders)
Watching the pigeons strut back and forth trying to figure out how to get at the food,
always makes me chuckle because they can't.

Its about time they realised ...
