WCMUT....what cheered me up today

jackpot will save you having to make any difficult decisions about all those begging letters
But it'd be good to get in touch with all my long lost relatives.
I'm sure I must have a Nigerian uncle somewhere

Yesterday but still made my day, turns out the service and reception guys at our local Toyota garage are bike fans
Went on the 350 YPVS to drop the other half off at our local Toyota dealers to pick up the car after a service they came out for a chat about bikes when they saw my bike :)

The boss where we get the Leaf MOT'ed collects it and leaves his current bike on the drive while it's being "done". Last year it was a Yamaha V twin of some sort (sort of streetfighter) but he's found a Triumph Street Triple with the accessories catalogue (go faster rather than cosmetic) thrown at it. Very tidy but I know it would kill my wrists after a mile in town and either me or my license in a week on the open road!

Not having to queue for Diesel. When I need fuel, I drop Mrs Nod down to an early morning class on a Saturday and fill up on the way home. Today being Saturday and the gauge hitting the 1/4 full mark meant that today was the day. I got there at 07:15 and by 07:25, there was a queue.

Having a working washing machine :D

Bought a new machine and it was installed on 8 Sept. Since then has managed to do only 1 load !! My plumbers got fed up [ did online chats with Manufacturer ] and finally decided that I needed an engineer's visit.

Engineer arrived this am and after about 40 mins I now have a working machine :D :D

Glad its sorted for you.
In these circumstances though I never accept repair, I always go for replacement.

Battery life on my mobile phone was getting short, so I went and got a new one last week. I like to hang onto
a previous phone for emergencies but decided I didn't need to keep my older Samsung S6 anymore
Asked around, no one wanted it, they all seem to want newer models so wondered whether a charity shop would take
it, seems not
Near the one I went to is another shop that buys 2nd hand phones etc so popped in.
Imagine my surprise when they offered me £90 for it, they have an identical one in the window for £110 :)

A cardboard box.

After a delivery we have a lovely cardboard box which I suppose I'll cut down and put into the blue recycling bin but looking at it reminded me of the days when as a little boy I'd be overjoyed to get a cardboard box and I'd draw on every inch of it. Happy days. Poor but happy :D

If no one would see me I think I'd grab a pen and have a go at it, just for the memories :D

Just so you know, all the supermarkets are now selling off their "Back to School" supplies cheap, so if you want some discount felt tips...?

This gave me some cheer today :)

Born to hop over great distances across Australia a kangaroo that was in captivity with a German circus made a second attempt in a week at freedom and is now at large in the Black Forest, Germany. Drivers on a country road near St Georgen reported spotting the kangaroo, but Skippy fled into the forest when circus workers arrived. Obviously a smart Roo. The police aren't interested as Skippy is no danger to anyone.

Assuming it’s a big one, saying it is not dangerous is a bit misleading:).

The police were probably thinking in terms of a lion, or big cat I expect. I've watched many of the documentaries of the chap in Australia who takes in orphaned roos..usually the parent has been killed on the road and one huge roo he'd had for years, called Roger, would chase him round a tree lol. I've also seen home footage of roos in a street in Australia boxing each other. If anyone approached this one I'm sure it would be off. Obviously doesn't care too much about spending the rest of its life in captivity. In June the German government voted against banning wild animals from life with a circus. Goodness knows why.

Never get this sort of thing round here where I live. :D

They’re usually OK but Kangaroos can be territorial. AU Gov advice:

As a last resort, if you can't escape an attacking kangaroo or wallaby, roll up into a ball on the ground with your arm covering your neck and call for help. Try to roll or crawl away to a safe place.

Just a little thing. A little victory.

I like to buy British (to support UK jobs so that people can pay tax and fund the NHS and all the other good stuff) and it's annoyed me for a while that my mouth wash is made in Italy so I checked what they had on the shelf at the supermarket and found that the supermarkets own brand one is made in the UK and much cheaper than the branded Italian one too. After using a bottle I was was happy it worked just as well and so bought another bottle. Result!!! :D

It’s probably made in Italy (or China) and bottled here ;)

I don't think so, I hope not. Some things are labelled as "Packed in the UK" or similar but I see that as better than just stuff being shipped in. This does say "Made in the UK."

I try to avoid buying items from China and yesterday I bought 4 bags of redskin peanuts which my wife whizzes up in the food blender so the birds can easily eat them I just noticed this morning that under the nutrition table was written. "Packed in the UK" Bottom left.. 'China".The main source is Oklahoma,Texas and New Mexico. There's a slightly oilier and smaller one grown in Spain.

You do have to be careful...This is dated December 22 2020 https://www.deadlinenews.co.uk/2020...s-saying-british-carrots-were-grown-in-spain/

I used to buy quite a lot of mealworms by post. The dried ones are mostly Chinese I think but if you buy live ones (which are good fun winkling them out of the packaging ;) ) I think you can be confident they are British born and bred eligible carry blue passports.

BTW referring back to your alligator post, it’s amazing how fast mealworms can travel and find somewhere dark to hide :).

Did you used to have them in a pie or raw ? :p

Lost me re the alligator reference.

Its strange, that we the British rarely eat "Bugs" but so many other cultures do and yet they are highly nutritious ( allegedly :D )
Chocolate covered Locusts or Grass hoppers anyone?
I've eaten most things, but not yet been tempted :D

It is odd especially when we eat shrimps and prawns etc. draw the line at snails yet eat whelks and winkles etc. We may have eaten slugs in the past.

I've tried a bag of some sort of cricket from the Eden Project and they didn't taste of much.

I’m sure coating them in chocolate would make them tasty ;)

I can imagine that would be the case TBH

That's probably why they do it :D

I've eaten snails, I guess they are a bit like giant winkles. I draw the line at slugs though. Besides if you put a bit of salt on them, they all but disappear :D

Oh yes, snails are good. I think the only odd thing, and it’s not that unusual, is Sea Urchin on a beach in France … and turtle eggs a long time ago, which were a bit of a disappointment because not much different from chicken eggs.

Of course we’ve all eaten some insects in bread if you study up in the permitted levels of insect parts in flour plus aphids in lettuce etc and I always find it best to eat wild blackberries without looking inside for the very common maggots.

Then there’s the old joke about Q. “What’s worse than finding a maggot in your apple?” A. “Half a maggot!”. I don’t think they ever turn up in shop bought apples now due to pesticides but I didn’t eat a shop bought apple, or any fruit except bananas and oranges, until probably in my twenties. And spent some time cutting up apples at East Malling Research Station for a study on codling moth so probably seen more apple maggots than most ;).

Very recently I heard someone on the radio talking about introducing insects to our basic diet on the grounds that they are very nutritional. I had to do a Google and found this.

It might be a struggle ..I'm thinking of the reaction viewers have when the contestants on reality shows like 'I'm a celebrity get me out of here ' ,maybe there are others, I don't know .It's the only one I've heard of and I don't watch it. Seems a bit gross to me. :)

One suggestion re us here in the UK is that we cold climate so not many insects and those we have are viewed as pests that eat crops.

I expect you could grind them up and add to flour* or maybe form into something like stock cube. People eat all sorts of things added to their food which they mostly don’t notice, various gums, alginate from seaweed and so on :).

*Instead of saying how many insect parts are allowed in flour we’ll have a reg saying how much flour is allowed to be in insect powder :).

It's all down to taste. If insects tasted good (and had a nice mouth feel), I'd have no problem eating them. Prawns etc. look weird but are delicious! I remember seeing something on TV some years back and the presenter ate a large spider of some sort. He described it as tasting (and feeling) like scrambled eggs.

It used to be said that spiders had a nutty taste.

Mission accomplished; 5 pots of damson jam made yesterday morning and damson jam on toast for breakfast this morning, :)

Looks lovely. We were out picking blackberries and sloes a few weeks back, there’s massive crops of both of them in the fields this year, it’s obviously been the right sort of weather. A neighbour pointed us in the direction of bullaces in another field, they’re like a smaller version of a damson. I’ve made some sloe gin, my wife has done bullace jam and we’ve had loads of blackberry and apple pies and crumbles. Nom nom.

Just booked the Ferry Cairnryan to Belfast for tomorrow morning, going to spend 6 nights roaming the North of Ireland in the Motorhome with the wife and the dogs!

Wooohoo!

WCMUT?

Getting all 6 numbers on last nights lottery :woot:

All I gotta do now, is get them all on the same line...
Although I did win £30 & a lucky dip for a £10 stake

It is early days but we've just had fibre installed.

I know there are faster connections but to go from 6 down and 0.3 up, to 120 down(one speed test showed 149 down) and 30 up males such a difference.

Dave

Mrs WW has tweaked her ice cream making technique and yesterdays strawberry ice cream was the best ever. She's going to make chocolate chip next.
