WCMUT....what cheered me up today

We discovered Two hedgehogs in the garden together not just one as we thought, we always had two before who at that time of the season brought two young with them to beef up before making their own way in the world.

A few years ago I ordered an item while I was in NW Scotland. As the order asked for any special instructions, I put, "If out, leave by front door"

I wasn't in when it arrived and found a note in the letter box. I was initially a bit annoyed as I thought I'd have to re-arrange a delivery but found the delivery driver had written on the note.

It said, "I have put your parcel in the shed because it was raining and thought it might get damaged". Not only was this great service but to do it the driver had to go through a gate, around the back of the house and up about seven steps to get to the shed.

A pleasant surprise (y)

I've left notes when delivery was expected, Mostly they are totally ignored and left on the door step even in the pouring rain.
RM tend to be the exception though (y)

Had an (Amazon) parcel arrive yesterday via the post and the postie had left it under Mrs Nod's MX-5 with the note saying that was the driest place he/she could find to leave it. Had I remembered that I was expecting it, I would have left the meter cupboard key in the door like we usually do but being a f***wit, I had forgotten!

Sometimes it's the little things that bring the biggest smile.

The Queen arrived at Balmoral Castle for a stay and was welcomed by a Guard of Honour the Scottish Balaklava Company 5th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

Also part of the Guard was the Regiment's mascot the Shetland Pony.....Lance Corporal Cruachan 1V :)

A bit like the Brigadier Sir Nils Olav III who is the Colonel in Chief(and mascot) of the Norwegian King' Guard. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nils_Olav and

Picked up a delonghi dedica ec685m espresso machine last week for £30.
Bought a non pressurised basket for it and Just fitted a rancilio silva wand.
Now I can make proper coffee with nice creamy milk rather than a ton of foam....will keep me happy until I can get a sage barista bean to cup machine :)

Remarkable price!
Though I wouldn’t bother if you are going to muck up your coffee putting milk in it :) :exit:

We're off to watch Sheffield Wednesday. First fully open proper game since the madness started. Wife is like a giddy kid. She loves the Owls.
Hope we're still smiling on our return.

Moheato Merjito Moreheato Mojito!!!

Good choice to change the basket. Pressurised baskets - the “decepticons” of the coffee making world......

Depends what type of beans you’re using - most of the stuff I have is straight without milk but a few of the Mocha bean varieties I get just beg for steamed milk to bring out the chocolate flavours

What cheered me up today, the party next door playing music quite loud from about 14:30.
I could have sworn it was the same bloody track that lasted 6.5 hours :(

What actually CMUT is that it finally ran out of steam at around 21.00.

Even I'd get fed up with something like "Comfortably numb" on repeat after 6 hours.
Let alone something with the same beat with indecipherable lyrics :(

It's a bit like banging your head against a brick wall, ( see what I did there? ;) ) Great when you (it) stops...

I have a very vague (can't think why...) recollection of going to sleep while a Hawkwind album was playing. No idea how long the central groove was repeating itself.

Years ago we went to Salou and there was a bar not far from our appt that constantly played Cher's "I believe" until 3 in the morning.
We were demented. Now when it comes on we break into a cold sweat...

Many years ago, someone crashed into the back of our car. When we got home, I spent over an hour on the phone to the insurance company, most of it was on hold which was just one song over and over again. It was Lifted by The Lighthouse family. I rather liked the song before that, can't listen to it now!

It seems they are up now, time for "Thuderstruck" on repeat. Vol 10
That'll sort out any hangovers (y)

Nah! You need to play Break Like The Wind at 11! ;)

Or The intro to The Machine on repeat with the speakers turned to face the party wall...

Seeing a wheatear in east London early this morning while walking with the dog.

I look out for them on migration in the spring and late summer. They are very common but it is always good to see one or two on their way north or, as today, south. I'm more used to seeing them on a remote moorland or shore in the north.

Since Mrs Nod teaches an early morning class on Wednesdays, I'm usually up before 06:00 and today was no exception. Just as I opened the curtains, I spotted movement in the grassy area down the hill which turned out to be a pair of fox cubs playing in the dim light. Watched them for about 20 minutes as they scampered up and down the road, around the grassy area and on the lawns of the houses opposite. Then the dog walkers started to appear.

Tomorrow morning is another early start for us so I might take the camera up tonight in the hope that they'll be out and about again (it's not a rare sighting!). Must remember to take the 1,4x telecon off the back of the lens and ramp up the ISO in readiness - I very much doubt that I'd remember to do so in the morning and I'd wonder why everything was a bit blurry! Might even dig out the X-H1 and use its IBIS alongside the OIS in the 100-400. The foxes do stop dashing about every now and again!

They'll be having a lie-in ... ;)

I won't! I'll be up anyway so I'll have a look for 'em. I sit on the side of the bed so can see out of the window down towards the grass and have reasonable peripheral vision, especially in low light so have a good chance of spotting them if they're out, especially if they're as active as they were this morning. Camera set up ready to grab if they do show up.

WCMUT?

Sitting outside in the calm and very pleasant late evening an hour or so ago,
listening to the quiet.

There was a slight thud on the fence, as though a cat had jumped up, I looked in the direction of the thud.
Nothing..

A minute or so later I saw a hedgehog running around the lawn.
I've not seen one in years around here. And the fences are wooden and 6 feet tall.
No gaps under whatsoever.
(Yes I know they can climb very well)
Not much for it to eat since I discovered the slugs hide out, ( that have been plaguing me all summer)
in the very much overgrown triffid New Zealand flax that got a hard prune the other day.

I grabbed a handful of meal worms and scattered them on the grass, and watched it hoovering them up.
It was last seen burying itself among the shrubbery.
I hope it stays, but I guess it was just passing through.

Well, THEY didn't but what appeared to be an older singleton did show up at about 06:00. Managed a couple of grabs - not worth sharing in a "proper" thread so here they are.

And a big cat, growling...

Have to say that I'm not unhappy with the X-H1's performance at ISO 12,800. (Bear in mind that the shots above are fairly heavy crops, done in-camera.)
