WCMUT....what cheered me up today

WCMUT was being able to get down into (and perhaps more importantly, back up out of!) Mrs Nod's little blue sports car. I've had a very bad back for almost a month so it's more of an achievement than it sounds!

BTW, Chris, did you find a Crossfire?

I didn't know I was looking TBH
As I've been driving one for about 4 years :D

My dodgy memory about a Cinch/CarGo thread made me think you were looking for one.

ETA... Found the thread - you were half considering a 300!

Yes I vaguely remember discussing that, but as said, I'd been driving one ( X-Fire) for quite awhile even before that thread.

Having booked a week in Kos to take into account the self isolation on return today, I am now starting my second week here following last weeks announcement to arrive back on 21st.

Much nicer to be here in the sun than home unable to do anything! ;)

Nothing in particular here, just having a nice time :D

Home made bread for breakfast and it's a lovely sunny day. I did the lawns yesterday and tidied up outside and cleared all the weeds growing between the block paving except for a small bunch of daisies right in the middle. It was lovely too look out this morning and see them amongst the flower tubs.

See them? :D

Call that daisy a "specimen Bellis perennis" then it's a wanted plant rather than a weed!!!

I know which I'd rather be... Biscuits. Cheese Biscuits all the way for me.

Happy ( belated) anniversary @Marc (y)

Wow! That's two life sentences back to back plus a three stretch for good behaviour.

Congratulations Marc, all the best to you both. :)

Congrats to you both, M&S.

Mrs Nod and I have been married for 14 years but together for 30 something.

We have some of those solar powered dancing toy things... I hope you know what I mean... on the window ledge. Someone knocked one off and the base came apart. Inside there's a solar panel and cct board and two wires lead to a coil in the base and above it there's a magnet on the end of a pendulum and the magnet is presumably attracted to and repulsed by the coil thus making the toy dance. The problem is that the two wires became detached from the cct board when it fell off the window ledge. So, I took the solar panel and cct board out and I may attempt to fix it and in the meantime I reassembled the dancing thing which is in this case a rather podgy penguin wearing a red hat and scarf and put it back on the window ledge.

I was amazed to see it still dancing with no solar panel and no cct board in it.

It's managing because the toys on either side are exerting enough magnetic pull and/or push to get the arm to swing in the penguin.

"How can it work with no 'works' in it" I ask... and everyone is baffled :D

I am amazed too that these small magnets can exert enough force, but it's working.

I've been driving for 35 years now and today only just realised that the petrol gauge on the dashboard has a little arrow on it telling you which side the petrol cap is on! So cool.

*goes to look*
No, my car doesn't have one of those*. How long have you had this vehicle?

*Pretty sure my last one didn't, either.

My car's seven years old.
(Last one would now be 19.)
Old enough to pre-date the new standard?

WCMUT?
Well more like mixed blessings ..
The tree surgeons are setting up to remove a large portion ( I hope)
of my adjoining neighbors damned beech tree.
Which each year dumps 3 full green waste bins of leaves in my garden ...
And overhangs one corner by 8 feet..

Of course all the windows are open seeking a little breeze through the house.
I'm looking forward to the noise of their shredder already
last time this was done, the box van that the shreddings filled up before they had finished.
But they kept firing it in the general direction anyway.

It covered my car, and drive, the neighbours to my right and lessening as it went a few doors down.
An "Oi, WTF" was ignored and they just turned their back on me...

So yes I'll be glad to see the height and spread reduced (its about 30 feet high x roughly the same wide)
But not looking forward to the mess and noise :(

Hopefully the result of the trimming will be worth a day or 2 of noise (is a Whipsnade trip due/possible?). As for the chippings/car, take photos (if you don't go out!), call the head office and make an official complaint.

To be fair, they have been reasonably quiet so far.
is a Whipsnade trip due/possible?
It'll be too hot even up there, I doubt much will show

As for the chippings/car, take photos (if you don't go out!), call the head office and make an official complaint.
I have pictures of the side of the truck.
I doubt they have a "head office" if you see what I mean ;)

Council? Not sure how bad beech chippings are for paint but oak can be a bitch.

Sorry, I meant a complaint to the council rather than them being council contractors!

They can't even fill pot holes when they get lots of complaints, let along worry about a few leaves here and there,
But to be fair, so far so good.
The tree is thinning out quite nicely, and the shredding so far has gone in the back of the box truck...
IIRC it was an open bed with low sides last time.
So I guess there have been a few complaints over the last couple of years when they did it last time.

Its all over, it looks much better with 10 feet off the top six feet off the sides.
and a good thinning out..
They missed a couple of "stragglers" my side, but I'll soon sort that out ;)

We have TV's all over, living room, kitchen and two upstairs. The one in the living room has been losing channels recently so I bought a signal booster and it's clawed back everything we lost. Yipee!

I don't know why this has been happening. I suppose it could be because some new houses have been built nearby but if that's the case I'd expect this TV to be the least affected along with the kitchen TV as they're using an areal on the roof whereas the two TV's upstairs are running off one in the loft. I suppose the loft ones and the kitchen one could be a better installation and wiring as I did those whereas the roof one has been up donkeys and someone else did that.

Whatever. For £25 for the booster and a cable we've got the channels back :D

WCMUT was the brainwave I had on the way to golf this morning - maybe I dropped my hearing aid battery case thingy when I took my car keys out of my pocket on Tuesday. Well, not so much the brainwave as it being what happened; the thing was in the lost property drawer in the pro shop. Of course, when I phoned Mrs Nod to tell her not to bother getting me a new one, she was literally just walking out of the hearing aid centre with new ones!

Mrs Cockney (Kaye) got an all clear from her first mammogram since her cancer operation. :D

Well, that's a huge relief for both of you. Congratulations - I'm sure you'll enjoy those celebratory drinks. :D (y)

As I reported earlier this year, despite having a pond full of spawn, a late frost turned it into mush much the same as most years.
A couple or so months later I spotted a small shoal of tadpoles in the shallow end, there must have been a second clutch this year.
WCMUT?
While thinning out the rock cress and baby tears from one corner of the rockery today, I spotted 3 froglets hiding in there.
That corner gets quite damp, obviously also attracts small insects.
So its perfect to hide in and is also a good food source as well (y)

Walking in to a hide in my local reserve and for the 2nd consecutive time have a beautiful Bullfinch coming to feed
