WCMUT....what cheered me up today

I swapped a set of front springs (because one had snapped) on my Sportage last summer. Had it been winter - no chance. I amazed myself as I got it done whilst my missus was in town, shopping, with our daughter. My trusty cordless burp gun was very handy and my bench vice, in the shed, was put to good use. I'll be seventy five in a couple of months! I've been putting off an upper clutch pedal switch until the outside temperatures reach double figures! I can manage without cruise and downhill braking assist (which I have never used) until then!

Well done there, that a great job you did, getting under the pedals is doable, its getting back out that's hard for me

Getting down is easy; it's the getting back up that's a problem!

VERY little is even visible under the bonnet on my car - pretty much just the assorted filler caps, not even a dip stick. I do deal with as much as I can on the bikes though but now have a wheely stool to work from rather than a padded mat on the floor.

My BMW snapped a front spring just before Christmas, what with ordering springs, struts, top mounts all the rubber bits between Christmas and New Year, and work or the weather getting in the way it has taken me until yesterday to get it all done. I am only just turned sixty but would have much rather done the work in the summer, that was not an option.
 
Changed my car insurer today, the insurer quoting for modifications came back almost 20% cheaper than the current insurer for no modifications. There's a head scratcher! lol Juicy refund inbound.

I moved to Adrian Flux. Did it over the phone, took about 10 minutes in total to get an answer for the mod, then a quote and then to be fully covered. Then you are setup on their portal which is pretty decent.
 
Car insurance renewal. £119 last year, £121 this year! FAB :)

Never even thought about the post office for car insurance. She's 57 this year and does roughly the same mileage as you. She usually uses comparison sites, but I'll get her to give the PO a try when it next comes up for renewal.

I'm just under £600 and now feel thoroughly violated.

I'm paying £138 fully comp for my Volvo C30.... and that's with zero voluntary excess and including protected NCB

My wife bought me a photographic experience day - working with light in photography - which is happening today. Looking forward to it in a way, but concerned it may be a bit Noddy.

I think the older I get I would rather be consulted/asked......but that sadly removes the surprise element of said gift giving.

Sometimes it can be worth these things for just a couple of nuggets of information or seeing a slightly different workflow.
 
Just had the repair estimate from Canon for my 100L macro, £163 much less than I expected and includes full check over and clean :)
The lens focus had stopped working wouldn’t auto or manually focus
Expected an expensive bill
Had it a long time and used it a lot so can’t complain
 
Managed to swap my upper cruise control (clutch) switch on the car today. A real PITA (literally). On your back, over the sill, limited space, hands cut to ribands but you can't wear gloves as you need to feel what you are doing! All now working fine again. Hopefully I won't need to do that again.
 
Our Tasimo/Bosch coffee machine died so we went to Currys to find it on offer. Down to £35 from £107 .We bought two and saved £144. Amazing. Not even end of line, said the salesman.

I know a young person who spends more than 40 hours a week on the play station who is getting a carpal tunnel operation.
Not caused by work because this person has never worked, ever
 
A close encounter.

Yesterday I heard a charactristic thump and knew a bird had just flown into a window. I looked out and there was a dunnock stunned but still alive on the ground.

Within a fraction of a second a sparrowhawk arrived and perched on a chair close to the back door. It stayed for only a couple of seconds and I think my presence at the window scared it away.

We see a sparrowhawk or evidence of one fairly frequently in the garden but for that short time I was about 6 feet from a sparrowhawk.

Not sure I want to sell to a landlord. We have a fantastic relationship with our next door neighbour and and prefer to know who is going to be here in our place.

We've been here 25 years and are only moving because we need a bungalow.
 
I think Sky have committed a major faux pas with our account. They’ve somehow offered us a new deal which has managed to knock £50 a month off what we were paying previously for broadband and tv. I’m sure it’s a cock up, so I queried it with billing but the agent said it’s correct… she did seem very surprised though ! At least I’ve got it in writing if they try and claim it’s an error. :)

I've just renewed with Sky to get a cheaper deal and my next 3 bills are also £50 less than expected.

Aye I understand that, our neighbours on both sides said the same thing when selling and one side we are still very good friends with. I still suspect that money would ultimately win over with them, but our properties, the area and community are general one which would attract nicer people anyway (hopefully lol).

I guess unless you actually know the person buying or if a landlord reveals themselves as such, would you really know. I wonder if there would be some tell-tale signs when they are viewing?

When we soldd our flat 20 years ago, it was going to be to a landlord. It was disclosed by our solicitor.

Be very careful with estate agents. Ours was all sweetness and light at the start but was very soon into price lowering and bully tactics. I was having none of it and we actually had an asking price offer but they then virtually insisted on us using their "in house" legal team, as the buyers were using them????? They said that our own solicitors could cause unnecessary delays (not to my knowledge and experience). The "in house" team were 280 miles away, so we just pulled out of everything as we were"no sale no fee" and had use of any agent in our terms and conditions. They not only wanted to use their people for selling, but also sign up for our purchase, which we didn't have at that time. No way Jose!
