WBMT.....What baffled me today

Following the recent posties strikes, I had a delivery today (Sunday)
I wonder if they are being paid overtime?
Smart move if they are :D

I had one last week - Royal Mail tracking but delivered by Evri. Looks like Parcel Farce have chosen a decent delivery service! (Well, they are here!)

Ha ha, Parcel Farce, made i smile :D

Order something from Amazon yesterday - delivery date Monday, so gave the work address. This morning they attempted & failed delivery.

Yes, I’ve suffered from that. With my delivery they said it was handed to customer! I told them I have CCTV coverage. They declined to give me the time of delivery so a refund was welcome!

Just had the second parcel in the delivery via the postman - same despatch date but a week later.

Arranged a return collection for an M&S order on Wednesday 7th. Got an email from Evri on Thurs saying that they would pick it up between 1930 and 2030 on Thurs 8th, got another email saying that they would still collect it but between 2000 and 2100, no collection and no more emails that day. Got identical emails on Fri, Sat, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri. Sat.
I have now informed M&S that I will return the items to a store,
Just waiting for Evri to turn up this evening.

RM delivered a parcel on one of the strike days. :)

Had an eBay purchase delivered today, estimated deliver 02/23-07/23, well done RM, different parcel despatched same day not here yet but was in Edinburgh mail centre yesterday, how long to get 12 miles I wonder.

I can’t work out why M&S use Evri (apart from the obvious : they’re cheap). They’re terrible. I’ve been waiting for 11 days for my M&S parcel just to leave their depot. M&S must be getting a ton of complaints and requests for refunds.

Wifey telling me she's never seen Top Gun (the first one). o_O

I didn't think that was possible.

Well, yes, for sure. It could be Friday night's viewing before our traditional Christmas Eve film, which this year will be Top Gun, Maverick.
I wish my wife would watch and action type movie but she has no interest in western, war films etc. However, I did mange to persuade her to watch a James Bond film (Spectre) a few days ago. She would just watch 30 min old comedies.

I am also puzzled as to how those with guests can decide in advance what movies will be seen, unless it is The Great Escape or Zulu; who would not want to see those (My Wife!).

Neither of us have seen any of the Topgun franchise, though my wife like the MI and Oceans series.

Who can possibly think it's ok to have the TV on when you have guests over? It's almost as rude as it's can be unless there are children with special needs who have to be distracted.

I think other opinions are available. As my American in-laws seem fond of saying: "different strokes for different folks". :naughty:

When my son visits he takes over the remote and decides what we're watching! Not a big issue for me, Christmas Day is also my birthday, and by the time we start watching TV I'm generally on my 2nd bottle of wine and falling asleep

I do my best to avoid christmas, but usually kid(42) pops up for coffee and a chat then home so she can get the wine out too.

I guess its ok if you see your family on a very regular basis, to have the TV take over / kill conversation, I'm not actually sure how you can watch a film and chat, giving your full attention to both, or have *your* beak stuck in a phone though.

I'd much rather sit and chat, catching up.

Spectre is a great film, as is Skyfall. Daniel Craig was the best Bond ever, IMO. That's another debate though.

True. We're OK (maybe lucky) in that respect in that we get zero visitors at Christmas. Our nearest family is over 80 miles away and with the others scattered over the UK (Wales) and globally (US and Australia).

To be honest, we're quite happy just to keep our own company, just 3 of us. Living in a quiet part of the village means we don't see many folk on the day either.

I'm still baffled that Wifey hasn't seen the first Top Gun though, I thought it was the law.;)

I pretty much agree with all of that, although sky fall wins for me (y)

Goodness gracious! Great balls of fire.
:D

Although being a short arse and not the 6'4" epitome of Jack Reacher, he doesn't make a bad job of it. ( 2 films)

Many other guys would suit the profile of Reacher better for those who have read the books, good effort though.

Indeed, but I believe that he actually bought the franchise. and they had no choice but to cast him in the role.
Alan Ritchson did a reasonable job on the Amazon Prime series.

But did it have Kelly McGillis or Meg Ryan?
I think not :D

Meg. Be still my aching heart.

She qualifies as, let's say 'an older woman' now too. :ROFLMAO:

So itseems, hence my astonishment.

IIRC that expression was about 'Jilling'. Are you saying something subtle about watching TV? ;)

Yup, for me too.

Where the scene in Glen Etive, just off Glencoe was filmed isn't too far away from us, I've yet to do the obligatory selfie there though. The A82 features in that scene too, with The Buachaille very apparent.

1:57 Glen Etive,

3:09, Buachaille Etive Mor on the left.

That was the only part of the ending at Bond's childhood home that was filmed in Scotland, the rest at the house itself was filmed in England. Fun Fact.

There might be a change of plans for our Christmas Eve film now, could well be Skyfall.

So would I.

I was just pointing out that "there's nowt sae strange as folk" and so "one man's meat is another man's poison".

I remember it being ‘nowt so queer as folk’, suppose that’s not acceptable now, I got a Facebook ban for using the word ‘trannie’ when describing an electrical transformer!

Good job I don't use Farcebook - that's the standard slang for any transparency! :runaway:

My attitude to Facebook is ‘if you don’t like/approve a post, you are free not to subscribe or read it, you can of course use as many swear words as you desire.

The rule of thirds or less than thirds.

People putting the main subject off centre or even way off centre when there's nothing else in the frame.

It's an opinion thing, but sometimes I just don't see the point in the interest being off to one side when there's nothing else to look at.

A female friend got a warning for using the word "tart" in an open conversation, with me, when it was completely food related.
I guess the word "Apple" was ignored.

That's what we all called portable radios when I was a teenager....
Yep.
Sadly, many words have fallen from favour.
BTW, are the Flintstones still having a gay old time?
Or the Monkees "company, still gay?" ( no milk today)

I refer you to my earlier post.

It snowed last night.
8:00 am: I made a snowman.
8:10 - A feminist passed by and asked me why I didn’t make a snow woman.
8:15 - So, I made a snow woman.
8:17 - My feminist neighbour complained about the snow woman’s voluptuous chest saying it objectified snow women everywhere.
8:20 - The gay couple living nearby threw a hissy fit and moaned it could have been two snow men instead.
8:22 - The transgender man…women…person asked why I didn’t just make one snow person with detachable parts.
8:25 - The vegans at the end of the lane complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and not to decorate snow figures with.
8:28 - I was being called a racist because the snow couple is white.
8:31 - The middle eastern gent across the road demanded the snow woman be covered up .
8:40 - The Police arrived saying someone had been offended.
8:42 - The feminist neighbour complained again that the broomstick of the snow woman needed to be removed because it depicted women in a domestic role.
8:43 - The council equality officer arrived and threatened me with eviction.
8:45 - TV news crew from BBC showed up. I was asked if I know the difference between snowmen and snow-women? I replied “Snowballs” and am now called a sexist.
9:00 - I was on the News as a suspected terrorist, racist, homophobe sensibility offender, bent on stirring up trouble during difficult weather.
9:10 - I was asked if I have any accomplices. My children were taken by social services.
9:29 - Far left protesters offended by everything marched down the street demanding for me to be arrested.
By noon it had melted
Moral: There is no moral to this story. It all happened because of snowflakes! !

IMO he does not even remotely suit Jack Reacher (Reacher is described as being 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 m) tall, weighing 210–250 pounds (95–113 kg) and having a 50-inch (130 cm) chest.. I used to read all the books and attended a talk by Lee Child the day it was announced that Tom Cruise would take the part. The audience who were clearly Jack Reacher fans loudly boo'd Lee Child. He was pleased to have got that out the way at the start as his talk was then interesting. However, it was clear that he had lost the plot. Other authors have held out to get a suitable actor but he did not. If the right actor had been chosen, the series could have had a success similar to James Bond. I think that it affected Lee Child because his books were quite poor after that; I stopped reading them but the reviews of later books were poor. Early 2020 Lee Childs younger brother took over writing the novels. In an interview, Tom Cruise admitted that playing the role of Jack Reacher was a mistake. Last year Netflix produce a TV mini series of Jack Reacher using a new actor who is very close to Jack Reacher dimensions and it works. He is able to stand in the way of a gang of thugs and stare at them so they turn away which would not look credible with Tom Cruise. Tom Cruise is a good actor and has played many good roles but he won't do Jack Reacher again.
