WBMT.....What baffled me today

A post on our local FB Community Hub
Someone took their car to a local hand car wash, as she walked away the 2 people washing it opened the side doors and started to jet wash the interior !!!
They did wet vac after, but the interior including the boot were left very wet, even more baffling was that a couple of replies said it was normal for them to do that

I think I heard or read of something like this and I certainly recall once getting my car back from service following the complimentary car wash the the mats seemed a little moist looking.

But what I thought they used was a misting spray jet i.e. not the blasting that the exterior gets! One thing for sure the interior IMO should not get "wet"!

WBMT?

Its seems the siege mentality is off to a good start.
Shopping in the main Tesco earlier today, at a time when its "normally" quiet.

People everywhere, blocking aisles, checking out the Christmas section, shopping trolleys piled sky high, and massive queue's at the checkouts ....

I'm not sure that Mary has even told Joseph she is pregnant yet.

Here we have a statue dedicated to stopping the rising knife crime ( press image)
being placed outside the Dons stadium.

And the best bit? its made from over 100,000 knives

I think the point is that all of these knives were confiscated by law enforcement.
Actually it was following a knife amnesty rather than confiscation.
But I still find it a weird choice of material, because of what its supposed to be portraying.
And the stabbings here, I'm sure this won't make them stop, as I posted elsewhere, its all or mostly all down to county lines.

I wonder how many of those have scared someone or possibly killed and are now on show :(

For some folks, they seem to be a fashion accessory. "For Protection" just doesn't wash with me unfortunately.

Yesterday the Scottish £10 note I tried to use in a Tesco store in London was refused.

I was really surprised as I haven't had that happen for many years(probably 25 or more) in any large shop.
I didn't argue in the shop as clearly the person on the till(and the colleague on another till) were unaware an FAQ on the Tesco website says they are accepted and there was a long queue behind me.

I was going to email Tesco but, as far as I can find, the only way of contacting Tesco is by 'phone, so I had to put it on their Facebook page.

The Sennedd in Wales are putting free sanitary towels into toilets in the Sennedd.

Mens toilets too ?!!
Going on some posts on social media sites, I think they need them as well ;)

Wife’s white car was ‘bogging’ and the weather is Baltic so she decided to pull into a local hand car wash, sitting in the queue I saw no hands used other than to use a pressure washer lance, so we left, guy wasn’t impressed when I suggested they change the misleading signage.

WBMT is where people are finding the cash to spend on the utter crap that seems to fill the local commercialmas market.

WBMT?
Having thought about it, shouldn't have.

I bought something earlier from the Amazon Marketplace, ETA 7 - 10 days.
That's not a problem.

A couple of hours later I got an email telling me it had been dispatched,

Then it occurred to me, you can't cancel an order once it's been "Dispatched"
I suspect someone is telling porkies, because it's not going to take 7-10 days to travel 50 miles south.

Canon sent me a discount code for spare battery, for the R6 that I 'own' ...
Never owned or registered one with them
Thanks anyway Canon

It's a hint that you need to buy one :D

Last night's fly tipper.

Someone dumped a half full black bin sack last night. The contents were all over the road because it contained ordinary kitchen waste - peelings, food containers, tins and the local foxes had found it.

Why would someone have to make the effort of driving(I assume they did not arrive on foot) late at night to fly tip one bag which could have been put in the normal bin?

If your council is anything like our council there are limits on how much general waste you can put out.

Our council has just reduced the number of bags we can put out and cut our collections from every 2 weeks to 3 weeks. Apparently we have to recycle more. They just don't seem to understand that people can only recycle so much.

You can really blame the person trying to get rid of their rubbish illegally when the councils do everything in their power to stop you doing it legally.

No limits here, our problem lies that people put food in black bags and not in the garden waste bin like they are supposed to.
Plus they never wash out the food tins or wrappers before putting it in the recycling sacks.
Of course they get destroyed by cats and corvids (once opened.)

We have an issue where our recycling gets blown all over the village. We have no wheelie bins so everything is put out in bags. The village is in a valley which get some really strong winds in Autumn and Winter. A number of people have complained to the council over many years but they just don't give a damn. One muppet told me to put my recycling in a normal black bag because those bags were heavier and wouldn't blow away.

I refuse point blank to pick it up but my wife is a sucker and has been out in the middle of the road on numerous occasions clearing up recycling that's been blown into the road and driven over by trucks and cars.

I have resorted to tying all the bags together now and then tying them all to a large rock. That's real fun to wake up early for to see the bin men furiously trying to get all these bags in the back of the lorry.

The only one we have is for garden waste / food waste, and weekly collections for all waste.
However, at some point next year we are getting 4 bins, that 90% of people don't want.
At an admitted price of £30 / bin ( I bet its more) and well over 1s0,000 households, that's not gonna be cheap.

Mostly the more modern builds that have no side entrance, no front gardens and virtually no rear garden.
Also, we are sure that once we get them, collections will drop to around every 2 - 3 weeks.
Although the local council ( lib dem / labour alliance) guarantee that won't happen.
As we all know, councils come and go.

And I wonder, because I have not "looked", if with new builds which mention their green credentials.......are designing in locations to 'store' wheelie bins

Certainly not here, unless it's a 4 or so storey "complex" with no gardens of their own.
And some of the most recent houses, the front doors open straight onto a narrow roadside pavement.
rediculous!

Monday evening tried to turn on my laptop, but the stupid little button on the side was loose and didn't work, it's a Dell on Windows 10, a few years old
Luckily I still have an ancient windows 8 Sony that work
Wnt out yesterday and got a new basic Acer laptop on Windows 11, :headbang:, taken me ages to find things and get it sorted, still trying :exit::thinking:
Took the Dell into a local computer shop to see -if they could get it to fire up so I could get a couple of things off, nothing really important as I have most stuff on a separate external hard drive
He seems to think it's worth repairing, says it is a really good laptop even if an older one  so going to give me a quote
Must admit I did like it. the screen fold right back so it became a tablet, useful at time

That must be the "return to traditional architectural design" movement at work. Plenty of villages round here have houses (dating back to the 17th century or before) which are like that.

Amazon has a special driver training course for such places... :naughty:

Same here,

Most certainly a regressive step, in an attempt to crowd as many houses into the smallest area possible.
Obviously that fact that does increases profit, even further, has nothing to do with it, I'm sure.

I bought hundreds of DELL laptops & PCs when I managed a school network, They were by far the best when is came to finding spare parts & service manuals to strip them down & repair.

I made a mistake buying a Sansung laptop for home use after I retired, just after the warranty expired one of the mouse buttons stopped working. On a DELL laptop the pad & buttons is usually a separate part & cheap to replace, on the Samsung it was a new system board which cost as much as a new laptop.

I am back to DELL laptops now.......

Had a text from the shop today, they are going to replace the button and the keyboard I manged to splash coffee over a while ago. Quote is £129 told them no rush as I have this new one.
If all is well with the Dell I may keep that and get rid of this one, why with each system upgrade do microsoft rtc take more control of what you do ?

I don't normally post here but...........
WBMT? HMRC. Why can they not just tax the state pension at source? It would make life so much simpler for me and them.

I think for a lot of people, that is their only income, and it is (for now) below the personal allowance, so they are due to pay no tax. Taxing the State Pension at source, would just mean a whole load of tax reclaims to process, or poor people being even poorer if they didn't file a reclaim form.

If your state pension is your sole source of income (you pay no tax) or you have another income which is above the full personal allowance it's all very simple
The harder bit is a state pensioner who has another source or sources of income but no one income is above the personal allowance and I think that's why it done like it is. I assume a non pensioner with multiple incomes totalling more than the PA but all individually below must be dealt with the same way?
It was just getting two messages about underpaid tax (I did know I'd underpaid and roughly how much by) over two days, one of I've paid off as a lump sum but the other can't be. If everything had been taxed individually there would have been no underpayment.
I'll put my rant back in its box now
New state pensioner, still getting to grips with how it all works

I get the tax deducted from my other pensions at source, same with interest on my saving state pension is paid in full

Yes, that's how it works, but you can end up with underpayments if your tax code changes get out of step with state pension changes (or when you first get the state pension). If the state pension was taxed at source that wouldn't happen.
Good thing I'd paid for my partner's Christmas present before they demanded money ;)

As far as I can see, they deduct the value of my state pension from the personal allowance then tax my other pension accordingly. They seem to get it right when I check it. They have not demanded any additional tax from me and I retired in 2006.

WBMT Why vulnerable and frail people walk their dogs when the ground and footpaths are frozen solid when they have a large lawned garden? Don't they know that the ambulances are in short supply as are the nursing staff and doctors?

Probably n=because they like don't brown patches on their lawn  I do know a few who it is a reason for.
For others is because it's the only time that get to talk to people
