WBMT.....What baffled me today

WBMT?
well yesterday now.

I ordered a couple of sweatshirts from Amazon, last week, delivered by Royal Mail.
And due 6th-9th.
Sunday I had a text from RM " your delivery from US clothing will arrive Monday between 10am and 4pm
Please click the link to track your parcel."
For a start off, that is not the company I bought from...

What is baffling is this is the second time in as many months that I have bought this type of thing,
and the fact that I received a very similar text a day or two after.
It does seem a little more than a coincidence.

Well I was baffled, but today I'm un baffled as all was explained elsewhere.

I was watching off in the distance, what I assumed was a glider,
but every now and again, there was a roar of a jet engine, we do get military aircraft passing high over head on the way home to one of the
Eastern or North Eastern bases, but no, there was nothing else in the clear blue sky and we do get gliders overhead from time to time as well.

It seems it was / is military drone "on trial"

It's not just today to be honest but today has been excessive!

Why do some drivers stick to 23 mph in 40 mph zones?

Never seen that.

I have seen people travelling much faster than 40 MPH in a 40 zone. On one occassion I witnessed. the outcome was extremely unfortunate. :wideyed:

Most likely either they weren’t paying attention and didn’t see the 40mph signs (I get this and they flash me when I overtake them!) or the road conditions are too poor to drive that fast (eg heavy rain, fog, snow).

Another similar one is people who slow down to 20 in a 30 when they see a camera,
And as well the ones that do 40 everywhere on my bike I can nip past them can’t always in the car. Following them at 40 in a 60 they come to a village that’s a 30 and carry on at the same speed through the village

My worst recently following was a line of cars doing 40 on a dual carraigeway and someone deciding to sit in RH lane at 45!

We have a camera at the bottom of a hill here 40mph limit, people see, brake to 25mph
I honesty don't think they see the road signs or know what limits are for various type of road

Either that’s poor signage (and there are some local roads where it’s not obvious that the limit is 40mph), or they are inattentive and shouldn’t be on the road.

All the posts re: speeding just remind me that there are still some drivers that still fail to grasp the meaning of "average speed cameras". The number seems lower but I still see the same 'speed & brake' behaviour!

I see this too, and yet the ones I have come across all have been very well signed.
I guess some people just don't understand the word average :D

I've spoken to one who thought they all took a double shot, Gatso-style, worked out your speed, then added them those up and divided by the number of cameras...

Obviously no concept of a measurement of 'time over distance'!

Many years back I think I recall one Jeremy Clarkson speaking about one section of road.. ........where he would blast past the first camera and then stop for a coffee at the service stop before the second camera.......just because he could (get away with it!)

That's a good question and I work in the hotel industry but my guess is that most rooms don't have the space for 2. That said, I bring my own. ;)
Oddly enough, I've stayed in some hotels with a double bed and three chairs. That makes me wonder... :naughty:

That said, I bring my own. ;)

And isn't it amazing how many receptionists in doctors', hospitals' etc. waiting rooms suggest that you 'take a chair'. :banghead:

Last few days we've had an odd convoy of police vehicles holding up traffic round here. I got stopped by them today.
Motorbike stopping on coming traffic then Black audi Estate, black BMW both with flashing blue lights White BMW no blue lights, loads of police bikes flashing blue light, bikes spread out first, then cars then more bikes and a marked police car, No one seems to know what's happening but they are causing traffic hold ups on busy dual carraigeways when the put all the traffic lights on red

people registering on here, just to share photo's nicked from various National Geographic and other award winning sites...

so annoyed that now, if any newbie registers, and posts a photo, i'm going to have to run a google image search on their shots before even commenting.

Give them a minimum post count until they can post pictures?

It may deter some people from registering, but I think the majority would understand why it's done - well, at least the ones we'd want as members. ;)

Jumping the 40mph bandwagon, this baffles me every time:

The village of Pentrefelin on the main road between Porthmadog and Criccieth has 40mph limits at either end of the 30. When driving towards Criccieth, no problem - NSL down to 40 down to 30. But coming the other way EVERY driver I've ever followed has gone immediately to 30 or even below at the 40 sign, and sped up at the 30 and through the village. OK it's downhill so I partly get the accelerating, but I have never understood why that particular 40 sign is always misread.

Sounds like South Africa and the 'blue light' convoys political dross expect ...

The mind boggles. The Great British Bake Off's first vegan contestant..a 19 year old lass, has had to delete her social media page(s) about her horse riding because she's been accused of not being a true vegan. She rides the horse for goodness sake, she didn't eat it. She's a psychology student who loves her horse so much she opted to stay at home with her parents in N orth Yorkshire rather than go to Uni and leave it.

I despair when I read stories like this. I expect her horse is as happy to allow her to ride it as she is to have a ride. Sounds to me as though the horse has a rather good life.

Sadly, there are always those who take things to extremes.

IIRC there are some vegans who display PETA levels of abuse/vitriol to anyone who is not one of them.

It's likely because she would be using leather tack or at least a leather saddle .
You know that tough animal based product.

Ah! but as a vegan she would actively seek manmade alternatives......but if leather the vegan zealots would not be happy. But unhappy or not 'they' should be called out for their trolling!

Should or would? who knows.

But unhappy or not 'they' should be called out for their trolling!
I find that strange, being posted on TP ;)
Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
At what point does it become trolling?
Actively following someone around to deliberately disagree with them I guess ..

I was referring to what I thought I read that the vegan rider attracted negative comments..........and it seems to my tired brain that I associated her 'delete account' action with such comments being hurtful i.e. trolling......... I'll :coat: now ;)

PS frank and honest debate is healthy, as we get (mostly) here @ TP......and long may that continue :)

Where on social media, as I get the impression, that/those keyboard warriors(?) act with disregard as to others feelings that perhaps stronger moderation is needed?

However, sadly as has oft been commented on, such open & public spaces are still the digital version of the wild west and have yet to show any real signs of maturing :(

Absolutely :)

Moderation on there is per se done by algorithms it would seem.
Some people almost get away with ( verbal) murder it seems,
and yet another FB group ( men only) people on there get "holidays" tends to be 30 days, for posting things they found on FB
and posted 2 or 3 years previously. :(
A female friend in an open post to me used to word "tart" she got a warning for that.
And yet the word tart was not used in the context of an insult, but food related.
Go figure.

Plenty of synthetic saddles around and a hell of a lot cheaper than leather.
But then, If they, accept the fact that she was completely using synthetic tack, ( but there is no way they would know ) there is still the animal "abuse" as vegans see it.
Unfortunately she left herself wide open to scrutiny, when seeking her 5 minutes of fame, by declaring that she was a vegan.

As I said above, there are always those who take things to an extreme and it's likely that they know b****r all about horses

A bit harsh. If she's going on a baking show, it stands to reason that it will become known that she's a vegan.

But they obviously did their research into vegan ethics.

People will always attack people with double standards human nature.
