WBMT.....What baffled me today

 I hope so. Ricadaforce says it can be switched off. ie. on the watch. I'm sure I recall him saying, a while back, last couple of months, that he has this very model. The Apple SE.

Btw. If you pop over to 'Talk Nature'..US storms I've just posted a link..live. A TX severe storm. Loads of lightning. The chaser is sheltering in a garage..'gas station'' lol. Take a peek, you'll find it interesting, I'm sure.

No, I have got the Apple Watch 6. Using the watch app on the iPhone you can turn off “listen for hey Siri”.

But does that actually turn the feature completely off or just stop Siri from responding to the call?

Apple are very good when it comes to privacy matters. Anyone can see on their iPhone which apps have access to the microphone. If you are unhappy with them you can revoke their access.

With regards to Siri, I just found this on my iPhone.

But are they really that good? (Not singling out Apple; Google and MS are just the same with their versions.)

Not paranoia. Just don't like the idea of a stranger listening in to everything within earshot.

Lots of bots as well as real people. Pretty sure it's not real people who tailor targeted ads after I've searched for something.

The other question is, can the user actually turn the listening/video feature off, or does the option to disable that function just turn that feature's response off, but not the microphone or camera itself? I suppose it all boils down to how comfortable you are about unseen people or organisations potentially listening to (and/or viewing) your and your family in your living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, car, workplace, etc.

Far fetched? A few years ago I recall seeing a photo of the head of a computer/internet company (I can't remember who it was) sitting at a laptop in his office, and the laptop had a bit of black insulation tape stuck over the top of the built-in webcam on the screen frame. The photo appeared to be genuine, but I suppose you never know.

It wasn't me! I've never been the head of any sort of company, but I have had a strip of black tape over the webcam of my laptop since the day I bought it...

That one's pretty famous:

I think they stretch the existing appendage rather than adding cured pork...

Mrs WW is desperate to dig up the plants in a local park. I've tried to explain that the park is owned by someone as are the plants in it but this doesn't seem to be sinking in. Must be a cultural thing but I don't remember seeing anyone digging stuff up in the Thai flower/plant displays I've seen so maybe it's a Mrs WW thing.

My EDF combined fuel tariff, is due to end, at the end of next month.
They seem to think that now is a good time to increase my payments by a tenner.

U-Switch web site it is then.
Several companies are telling me I can save between £150 & £250 a year by switching.
All their monthly payments are up to £20 more / month.
I'm not sure quite where I am saving money though
Baffling ...

If your on a fixed rate tariff and it's coming to an end they assume that you will just go to their standard variable rate hence the so called saving, just compere the tariff unit price rates and daily rates to give you a better idea.

p,s, I'm just come to the end of my current deal and did the comparison sites as well and even though they told me they could save me lots the couldn't beat the new rate given by my current supplier

I see what they are trying to do there, good try, playing with the figures like that.
but they are still more expensive.. and I still can't save the amount quoted...

I'm still waiting for my "new" deal :D

The comparison sites use the standard rate as this is the only one that doesnt change from site to site. The energy companies give diferent discounted rates to the comparison sites so that they promote them. Martin Lewis' website gives you the £25 commision it gets for hosting a deal. You can get a better rate through a comparison site than going directly to the same energy company.

That was my point, U-Switch comparisons were more expensive than the present one..
Even without taking the top line as a comparison

Not sure if it baffled me or was just taken aback... on a call with a german colleague and taking about a project referred to it as the final solution!!

Possibly a fairly common idiom that was hijacked by a certain section of the community 80-90 years ago like a well known Asian good luck symbol.

I'm easily baffled and today I was beyond angry with my old laptop and it's constant errors. I was just trying to complete one of my smartshow 3d videos and I've been doing it for years, since when is it too much to ask for, dear Dell?

My local Tesco only has a small car park. And two very well defined ( and larger than normal, as you would expect.) disabled bays, in the far corner near the shop.
As I was leaving there was about 6 spaces,
a large Audi pulls in, and heads straight to the disabled bays.
And parks in not 1 but across both of them!

Seems someone may be disabled, on the ability to park :(

Similar at the hospital for me yesterday. There should have been a space in the car park but it was too small as someone with a Mini parked half across it, I had to park half a mile away.

I was watching my opposite neighbour collect dog crap ( they don't own a dog) from the road side verge outside their house.
Very public spirited I thought, as that strip of land is the other side of the pavement and council owned.

Once he had a small bag full, he took a couple of steps forward and emptied it into the road ...

Maybe he wanted a quick hand warmer...

Perhaps a subtle message to the person who's dog it is, and to make it more obvious so kids don't step in it if it's lurking in the grass.

Perhaps a subtle message to the person who's dog it is,
That would have required it to be dumped on their driveway.
No doubt the cars have spread it down the road now anyway.

I'd have dumped it all over his doorstep.
As above that would require to know "ownership"
People often pass down this road on the way to the play fields, to run their dogs...

I saw similar at the supermarket as I was entering, noted the reg and asked at the customer service desk if they could page the owner as someone had just hit it, cue two police officers running out and a lot of greatly amused staff.

Very true. Back in the mid-eighties I had house in a cul-de-sac with an 'open' front garden (no one had fences). Unfortunately, I also had a neighbour that would regularly allow his dog to crap on my lawn. I had a go at him several times, but he always pretended he hadn't seen. I started giving it back by putting it on his doorstep, but it didn't stop it. In the end, I pushed a load through his letter box - that stopped it.

Mum decided that as, when she goes to doctor/hospital appointments and she looks with envious eyes at others int the waiting room tapping away on their phones, she wanted to finally join the smartphone revolution. I had an old iPhone 6S sitting in a drawer so an ideal solution was to give that to her. Turned out that, despite the fact that phones are supposed to unlock automatically 18 months after purchase, this one was still locked to EE 2 years after that. No problem, I thought, I'll just call EE. They duly took the details of the phone and said it would take up to 48 hours. There was no rush so not an issue.

That was last Monday. Fast forward to yesterday (Saturday) and the phone was still locked so I phoned EE again. Turns out I was misinformed and it actually takes up to 10 working days! How the hell does it take 10 working days to unlock a phone???

Apple? Mrs Nod had an old S6 Samsung unlocked and it took EE under 24 hours.

I'm on call at work, just received a call out to fix a problem in Hawick (those living in the Scottish Borders will possibly be way ahead of me at this point thinking "whatever it is, it'll be normal for Hawick") - while there I called in at Sainsbury's....

As I darted round picking up the few odds & ends as directed by the boss, I noticed literally everyone in the shop was either singing (for a certain value of "singing") all of them "singing" different "tunes" or talking to themselves. It was all very, very disconcerting. Definitely felt like an outsider :exit:

Well, today is a "speshul" day, allegedly.

I posted the other day regarding a scam Email I got urging me to transfer all my savings accounts etc to ii which is a share buying/selling platform. It bought out the Share Centre and the transfer took place just weeks ago so how come I get a scam Email purpurting to be from ii ? Have they got hold of the client list from the Share Centre or even ii ? Surely, it can't be a coincidence.
