WBMT.....What baffled me today

WBMT?
On the local news hub :-
People complaining that they are unable to get or book for the Covid booster,
and the fact that those that could found themselves almost packed in like sardines, while they tried to get through
as many jabs as possible.

And yet I'm just back from shopping at a large supermarket, which was bustling with shoppers.
Not a single person was wearing a mask.
Apart from me. (those that glared, got the "Paddington hard stare" in return :D )
It seems people want to try and protect themselves, but not others.

I've had bus drivers say, You don't have to wear your mask now and I just say Yes I do. Hardly anyone here wears them now sadly.

Had my covid jab last Saturday, small queue about 10 min wait all masked up
had flu jab Monday at local chemist no queue only me wearing mask

My CV booster is booked for next Weds; just getting over the flu(!) now so the jab may be redundant, but I'll get it anyway when available locally.

Had my invite for the booster a few days ago so booked for as soon as possible - 13th. While I was booking it, my phone buzzed and it was the GP surgery inviting me for my flu jab and (if they have enough) a booster. Booked that for Saturday, coincidentally the appointment after Mrs Nod (who was out when she got the same SMS!) IF the GP has the booster, I can cancel the one the week after.

I had a flu jab for the first time yesterday. Flu in one arm and Covid booster in the other.

Was warned of headaches and general 'wobblyness', but thankfully so far; nothing.

Had the double one (Moderna) about 2 weeks ago, saw an article on MSN saying the over 60 could book, so booked it that day for the day after, just need to get the flu one now.

We had our booster jabs this week at our local NHS drop in centre. We were asked to wear masks & there was a security man at the entrance with a box of masks for anyone who turned up without. They were keeping people at a reasonable distance apart too.

We only ever venture into our local Sainsburys before 9am when it is mostly deserted...... usually to pick up something we forgot from our click & collect order we have just picked up.

Why do they always design pavements to have a puddle by a pedestrian crossing ???

Why do pedestrians stand chatting, by pedestrian crossings? My accelerator/brake foot has to hover! I've stopped several times, only to get a blank stare from the folks chatting!

There is one here, in two parts, close to a college, and on a slight bend, just after a bridge, so visibility is reduced on approach.
They either stand in groups by the crossing having a mothers' meeting, or they walk out, without looking right.

Some like that here too. Throw in the alleged geniuses that infest the city during university term times and it's a wonder there aren't more incidents.

Driving round the M25 at 3am (taking son to meet coach at school for trip to Iceland) and I was still the only vehicle using lane one, watched a taxi join - go straight into lane 2 - drove about 3 miles in lane 2 and then cross lane 1 to leave!.

Lack of lane discipline is my major peeve :headbang:

I think there are 2 factors to this, a lot of Lane 1 is now a feeder lane onto the sliproad 1-2miles out from a junction and then is formed by the slip road joining. People are now driving in Lane 2 as standard rather than move in and out of what they think is a lane to take the next junction.
Secondly no one has any motorway lessons and with 4 and 5 lanes in places people have no idea what they are doing so sit in the middle lane.

Now at >51 years of driving, very little about the (crass) behaviour of some drivers surprises me. Perhaps made worse by the "entitlement" mind set of folks who do the same in their driving!

A lot of people seem to regard lane 2 as the "cruising lane"... :tumbleweed:

MGB GT on M4.jpg

Most Volvo drivers get confused on modern motorways, as many of them are 4 lanes, so there's no "middle" lane to sit it

It's a major peev of mine, especially when I travel at the speed limit in lane 1, and some berk is sitting at 60mph in lane 2..... And they wonder why they get a dose of main beam when I have to jump acros 2 (sometimes 3) lanes to overtake them.....

Surely the Highway Code still says "keep left unless overtaking....":headbang:

From RAC website:

"New laws introduced in 2013 give police officers the power to hand out on-the-spot fines of £100 and three penalty points, meaning failing to keep left on the motorway could hit you in the pocket."

I wonder how many fines have actually been issued for this.

Obviously, not enough to make a difference. :(

Maybe they should start handing out 'on the spot bans'? :police:

With these new "smart motorways", not many, where would they safely stop people to hand them the fine

Looks like the MG has just overtaken the photographer and that it's not far enough ahead to pull in safely
To me it looks like its heading for the outside lane, probably to overtake the red car that's just visible.

Looks like the MG has just overtaken the photographer and that it's not far enough ahead to pull in safely. (Also looks like the shot was taken from the driving seat...)
Ah: the danger of assumptions.

It was taken from the front passenger seat of my wife's Saab 99, around 2000. I was using a Nikon F with a 200mm Nikkor, The image shows about a half of the full frame. The MG was travelling at the same speed as us and had been for quite a while, which is why I took the picture.

I got a book through the post today, as people who read the political thread know I ordered Mind F&&& by Christopher Wylie a book about Cambridge Analytica a week or so ago, with eager anticipation I opened it up, and its a copy of The Bible sent completely unsolicited and to me an anti theist, what a complete and utter Mind F&&&!

Not a bad read - as a novel!

If you'd prefer me to tell you a lie, tell me what lie you'd like to hear... :naughty:

On closer inspection it is just the New Testament so it is like being sent the second part of Lord of the Rings without the first part the second makes no sense, and it is full of commentary rather than the text of the gospels, very baffling.

They don't need to.

Camera evidence is increasingly accepted by the courts. In 2019, 25% of videos submitted by the public were used in traffic violation prosecutions

But that isn't an "on the spot" fine

so it is like being sent the second part of Lord of the Rings without the first part the second makes no sense,
But then again, the eagles came to the rescue, why didn't they just fly Frodo to the mountain ?
And the other 6 odd hours would have been redundant.
:D

The only book I can think of that's quicker to read than to watch the film.

Got our shopping delivered yesterday. Whilst putting it away, I realised they'd sent Sainsbury's crumpets instead of the Warburton's ones I ordered. Not a massive deal, but a 40p prie difference so I dropped them a message. A few hours later, they emailed me to say they had issued a refund for £42.65 which is 25p more than my entire order. Then I get another email this morning to say the order ha been cancelled. I checked my Sainsbury's account and the order that was delivered yesterday has disappeared.

The £42.65 went into my bank account today.

Watched the live court judgement on tv today, the murdering bitch got life, well ,minimum 34 years, life not whole life term, I know there is some legislation that prevents it but so why not 99 years.
Me, I'd hang her.

WBMT ? How I couldn't find a parking place in the shopping centre car park but we are supposed to be in a recession and nobody is supposed to be able to afford anything (especially fuel for all those cars!).
