Can anyone advise on a good WB setting for snow scenes with the D300

Either set it manually with a grey card or shoot in Raw and adjust later

Won't it depend more on the colour of the light than the snow? The snow beinga massive reflective surface it'll just reflect whatever light is there.

I'd recommend white rather than a grey card for CWB, It's easier to know it's neutral (our eyes are actually pretty good at spotting tinted whites), and at higher ISO's you'll get less variation due to noise.

Agreed that a custom white balance is best, but exposure will be your problem more than wb in snow - remember to give a fair bit extra of exposure as the meter is trying to balance the exposure for a mid-grey tone, when most of the scene is probably white.
It's much easier to reset wb in post than to recover seriously underexposed images, with the resulting extra noise in the shadows.
hth.

Phil V is correct match you wb to the type of light you are using and it should all fall into place, provided its all 1 type of light and not mixed, failing that, match to main light and correct in post

Thanks all. Going out today to try some of the suggestions..
