I am hoping to try and get some shots of waxwings this year. I seem to remember seeing a few cracking shots posted around this time last year.

Has anyone seen any yet (in Manchester and/or West Yorkshire) ? Am I a little early yet ??

Thanks,

Andy.

there has'nt been any reported on bird guies yet. we might not even get em, fingers crossed we do :)

non reported in the lincs area yet ,i think its a bit early for them

There was a report of a small flock flying north over St Helens last week.
I don't think we'll be seeing them in any great numbers this year because there has been a decent berry crop in the far north of Europe.

5 in Suffolk on Sunday at Melton + 10 In St Helens Lancs last Thursday

Andy they are an irruptive species, usually tied to food supply / or extreme weather. As far as i understand there is still plenty of berries about in their own area. Some will still come over.

Last year i saw many from November untill March but few reports so far this year.

regards Brian.

Im waiting for them as well

Last year and beginning of this year was a Waxwing year. This year as someone has already said the berry crop was good in northern europe so they will most probably stay over apart from a small number that will get here.

Someone i know just got back from sweden and said the first bird they saw feeding right in front of the airport entrance were waxwings. So if you're desperate £25 flight.....

would love to see these, seem to remember best to see them was in supermarket carparks lol

do they come as far west as Pembrokeshire?

nope....some years when there is a shortage of food in Scandinavia,we will get them down our half of the country, last year was good for these in wales... but i dont think we will get a good year this year, theres no berries here anyway  they have all gone..

Here in Chorley we have had no sightings as yet, I myself have been waiting for them to arrive, on my local nats society I asked about them and the replies I got where that they dont come to UK every year it depends on the berries available in Scandinavia

5 reported in Lancs on Wednesday (4 at Darwen and 1 at Nelson)

I get the feeling that it's going to be a bad year for Waxwings
