apologies for the question on such a frippery as a p&s camera, I can't see the search facility, i'm sure its there.

We're going on one of those resort/sailing hols soon and i really can't take my dslr and lenses - i'm only very amateur compared with most on here so its only for fun in day/night with/ without the kids and beach and bar settings.

I fancy one that is sealed or 'waterproof' to a few (or a couple) of meters so that when i'm in the surf and trying to get a decent shot of the kids, a wave hits me and i go apex over base, the camera won't go ape on me.

i know there's an olympus and i think a pentax but i'll be grabbing a duty free one - if at all, otherwise its the casio which is getting worse by the hour:(

I have the 770 and for beach use, it's just the job. Waterproof down to 10m (plenty for snorkelling), droppable onto concrete from 1.5m (can't vouch for this aspect but the Gadget show dragged one behind a 4x4 on a rocky beach at 15mph for 1/4 hour and it still worked) and freezable down to -10*C (which is way too cold for the beach!!!). Current equivalent is the 1030 (I think).

Dixons Duty free price for the 1030SW is £221.27, their online price (NOT duty free) is £216.99 (+P&P).

I've got the 850 (or something like that) of these. It's remarkably good. Took a while getting used to the idea of letting the camera set everything, and the menu's a bit clunky but the picture quality is rather good.
Tested the waterproofing in the surf and rain in Cornwall and can personally verify that it'll survive a 2m fall into a very muddy puddle.
 
I got one of those Kodak disposable ones, it does the job and less than £10
