ok, i bought a Dare2be ski jacket about a year ago.

never really been out in the rain in it untill yesterday. now it seems it doesnt seem to be all that water proof! as the rain was soaking into the fabric.
i put it on this morning and it felt all wet :(

whats the best way of bringing its waterproofness back?

its in need of a wash and it says to use a regatta soap, and then whats best recomended for treatment after that?

Chuck it in the bin & buy something made of "Goretex" - Paul ;)

Give it a good soak with Grangers Fabsil , I get mine from Millets . I wash my ski kit after each trip then re-treat it :thumbs:

Most waterproofing treatments such as Fabsil are great for a while, but if you forget to re-proof them...

In my experience waterproof clothing that leaks isnt worth the time nor energy to make it so.
Last thing you need is to find yourself at the top of a mountain in a dounpour and get soaked thru... hypothermia here we come... (was out with someone who did).

So if you are going to be somewhere where being dry is a must then ... Goretex or TripplePoint Ceramic.
 
I use Granger's Extreme soap and Granger's Extreme Synthetics.
You use the soap to wash your jacket, then add the synthetics to waterproof it.
This can all be done in the washing machine, then throw it in a dryer as the synthetics
needs heat to activate it properly.

The top two products in the Link, will treat your jacket 3 times.
 
north face and berghaus are my chosen brands for outdoor jackets, both have been well worth the money.
 
I've got a barbour material job, and its mega waterproof, you could dunk it in water and I think it would be OK (outside part of jacket), not cheap though £229 :eek:
 
Any outdoor shop (eg Graham Tiso) will be able to sell you waterproofing stuff that you add to the wash.

hang on... surely not. try snowsports without the right kit and then say that!

also plain goretex is ok for just walking but if you are doing anything more active it's not that breathable. i noticed quite a difference using goretex XCR, but it is more pricey.

as has been said before try washing it with a treatment agent (i use XT) and tumble dry it on low, it can make a huge difference. unless of course the seams are the problem!
 
Gore-tex under a cotton outer for minimum Infra-red reflectivity. Though I appreciate other may have different priorities.
 
Gortex XCR is a good waterproof fabric and it's very breathable but it's a touch on the expensive side.

For mountain biking I wear an Endura Jacket which uses eVent fabric as the outer layer. It's completely waterproof and very breathable as is required for intense biking in extreme conditions.
The main plus point though is that it performs the same as Gortex XCR but at a fraction of the price - XCR jackets cost around £220+, the Endura eVent jacket is around £120 :)
 
ive just been into a ski-wear shop and he advised me to take it to the dry cleaners, apparently they use stuff to keep it protected. maybe worth looking in to?
 
hehehe. I picked up my Sprayway Goretex XCR for about £70 from Ebay in the colour and design I was looking for. It was "second hand", but it was never worn, still had the tags and was kept in the closet for 2 years cause the wife got pregnant after the husband bought it one sale some where. The only thing that nags me is that it might be a ladies cut though. :lol:
