Yes
Was supposed to shoot my sons football match today but due to the horrendous weather didnt fancy getting the camera out. It was hammering it down.Just wondered if there was any decent waterproof coverings that people use in this situation.

I use the Kata waterproof cover, there are cheaper ones available, but I have found that the Kata one works great for me.

The situation being that you had the camera and the 'gig' but no waterproof cover - I'd have got a carrier bag, cut a smallish hole out of the corner, and stretched it over the lens. I almost always have a spare carrier bag and my Leatherman on me ;)

On a more long-term note, I've always fancied something from these people but I've always found something else to spend my money on. I haven't had any call for a rain-cover and so I've always carried the carrier bag in case. If I have a windfall, I'll probably get one as a 'stocking filler'.

 The carrier or bin bag did honestly cross my mind!..Like that thinktank cover but very pricey!

I've always got a couple of OpTech rainsleeves in the bag - about £7 for a pack of 2 from ebay. Not used them yet but they are there in the bag ready to go.

I just use some supermarket freezer bags which are a little thicker and are the perfect size

Cut a whole in the end,
Put it over the lens and camera body, Place one elastic band to secure it and prevent water getting in.
Always use a filter plus hood if possible to prevent water getting into the lens.

Works a treat. Readily available, transparent so the controls are visible. Never needed anything else.

+1

I also bought a couple of Optech rainsleeves. I used one at a football match recently between Knaresborough Town and Harrogate Town during a couple of showers. Kept my Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 lens protected perfectly although my Pentax K-5 is weather-sealed so I just needed the sleeve for the lens.

IMO they are easier to use than ordinary plastic bags because they have a drawstring opening for the lens so you can seal it around a lens hood and an opening for the viewfinder which can be secured by fitting the eye cup over it. This means it takes a little longer to put on but easier to use once it is.

Another vote for the Optech rain sleeves here. Got me out of a (very wet) jam a few times.

I've got a couple of Op-Tech rain sleeves in my bag all the time, I've got a couple of the ones for flash as well so I'm fully prepared. Only had to use one once so far at the waddington airshow this 'summer' and it worked great.
