As above, just booked a late holiday to Egypt, never been, Sharm el sheik, and looking to buy a camera for beach, pool and snorkelling use.

So far I'm looking at a Nikon cool pix AW110.

Anyone any other ideas of similar I could look at or more to the point any bad experiences of any to avoid.

Cheers

What's your budget?

The latest Olympus is a great compact that happens to be waterproof which is the exact opposite of the rest of the market.

Coming down in price the canon and Pentax options get good reviews.

Then at the bottom of the heap you have the fuji offerings that offer great bang for the buckl

250 I guess, 300 if there's a standout way better than others. Not really pushed on price, but won't see a lot of use, literally for the beach and poolside.

If you can stretch to 300 then the Olympus tg2 is the best camera in the tough segment.

I had an Olympus Mju770 a few years ago and when it decided to stop being waterproof (a few weeks out of warranty), they (Olympus) were rather less than helpful so I will never have one of their products again. From what I could see, the user accessible areas (card and battery compartments) were bone dry so the water must have got in past the lens or buttons.

It's been replaced by a Canon D10 which gives better photos in every respect both above and below the water and has (so far!) remained waterproof.

I wouldn't buy a Fuji again, I had an XP30 a couple of years ago and wasn't impressed with either the picture quality (although that's probably down to the user... me ;) ) And it also leaked slightly into the battery compartment. This happened each time I used it, luckily there was no damage. This was only in a couple of feet of water too (Surfing pics).

I was looking at one of the Fuji's but in the end I bought a Nikon P7100 and a waterproof housing from Amazon for £345.00, that way I have a decent compact and it will be waterproof when we go to Sharm in October.
This will be our 5th time and I spend most of my days snorkelling :)
