Hey Peeps,

Im currently offering family photoshoots and include some free images within my package.

on my passworded gallery for the family to choose their images i have an option for a low resolution image for internet use priced at just £5.
on these images i put my web address in the corner with a small font and with a medium opacity so it is unobtrusive.

would you say that this is acceptable to do so in terms of advertising or because i have sold them, even at such a low premium , this should be removed?
I also have the option for the client to buy a high resolution image and also a selection of prints and in all of these my watermark is not added, only so in the the low res....

what would/do you do??

It used to be pretty much the norm at one time for studio shots to have the photographers name on the front of the print, it seems to have gone out of fashion a bit, but if you want it there then put it there, your pics your rules.

Simple really.. make sure the watermark is in the description when making the sale... maybe show an example... If I paid a fiver for a small pic then found the watermark I wouldnt be pleased.. but if you know up front then alls well..

Just because its small and 5 quid that doesnt alter the customers expectations ...that of buying a small pic.. not an advert for you company :)

Everything you buy more or less has an advert on it, your camera has the name on the front, and probably on the strap as well, your car has the name on it, your telly etc etc, why should a photo be any different?

because a photo is more visual.. all the other things you list have another primary use.. and secondry they will look good.. a photo is for viewing.. thats its purpose... if i bought a photo of any size for any price i wouldnt expect a company name on it unless specified..

hope thats a good clear answer for you :)

If I was paying money for a photograph, I wouldn't want the photographer's name, logo, etc. on it.

Your customers don't want to buy an advertisement, just the product they asked for.

It still doesn't matter, if the op want to put it on HIS photos he can, just because you don't like it doesn't make you right and him wrong.

wow!!!

seriously.. what an over the top remark.. I was answering a question and i was stating my opinion.. I wasnt telling him right or wrong..

your either drinking too much or being a drama queen.. jeeeze...

IN FACT.. If you care to read the thread properly I never even told him dont or suggested dont.. I did suggest that as long as its in the item description then its alright.. the bit you managed to quote was an answer to someone else..

As a buyer, I wouldn't want your logo or name on the front of the print as that potentially would look poor if I was displaying it. If it was a free sample then that would be different as i'd expect you to protect your copyright ahead of any payment
