Am i right in thinking that if im using a polarising filter for waterfall shots, but then add a ND filter it will cancel out the polariser effect ?

Im wanting some slow water shots so is it best to shoot with a polariser or ND filter ?
thanks.

How slow do you want/need to go? The last 4 shots on THIS page and the first few on page 2 show a waterfall and a stream at a few relatively fast shutter speeds but still showing milkiness. They were all taken with only a polariser (if that, I can't remember) but in early January when natural light levels were low and towards dusk.

Some combinations of variable ND filters and polarisers might cause a negation of the polarisation but a "normal" ND filter shouldn't do so.

thanks for the reply, i think a starting point will be from .5 to 2 seconds for what im looking for.
i guess it will all depend on speed of water and light available.
the only way to find out is to get out and give it a go, i will try the polariser filter for some shots then give it a go with a ND filter and see how i get on.
