water heater , heat controller?..

is there anything on the market, that will let me have variable control on a water heater? 3000w
rather than a thermostat that will knock off the power when temp is reached ..thanks..
Perhaps I mis understand but they all stop heating when it's full don't they?

Perhaps i didn't post it right.. what i am trying to achieve is a constant boil of water, which ,when used with a thermostat, knocks off the boiler when the required heat is achieved,
Then when the temp drops, the boiler will fire up again to the right temp..
what i need is something to replace the thermostat, so i can control the boil...if that makes sense..

It might be easier to understand if you described the application. Because what you've described you want is how a thermostat works.

Is this for home brewing? I know some people use Burco boilers and achieve a constant 60-90min rolling boil of the wort, but I believe the thermostat/simmerstat needs some modification otherwise they can't achieve a good rolling boil.

Have a look at the link below, do some more research and BE VERY CAREFUL.

A hot water cylinder stat works in that way, but they're not designed to allow the water to boil.

yes for brewing...but dont fancy mucking about with the wiring...thanks...

When I looked into those boilers, there were some that would achieve a good rolling boil without modification. I can't remember which they are but it shouldn't be hard to find out if you research the brewing forums. I'm afraid if you don't want to delve into the wiring, you'll have to get one of these.

In the end I settled for a simple, stainless 33L brewpot on the stove. Over 2 hobs it can get 12-15L to a rolling boil fairly comfortably if a little slowly. Ideal for maxi BIAB (~15L mash, ~12L post-boil concentrated wort, diluted to 24L in the fermenter).

I toyed with the idea of using propane and full-volume brews but I don't want to risk brewing outside with our weather.

For someone that didn't want to do any wiring, that;s an odd choice! And a proper thermostat would be a far better choice. Using the device you've linked to would be no different than putting a pan on the hob - it only controls the input, it's not an on-off thermostat.
no, i would get a mate to do it...let him get the shock..:)

There's no need for one of those, especially if you don't want to tinker with wiring.

All the thinking has already been thunk on this many times over, it's a very common issue amongst home brewers. Research the home brewing forums, you'll find all the info you need. (y)
thanks for that..
