Hi all, I have read a few reviews here and on other forums and thought I understood the basics - but my results would suggest not.

Anyone done a simple water drop set up using a canon 7d, 430ex flash and a macro lens, and would be willing to share their setting and experiences.

Thanks folks, have had my first attempt, not that great to look at but was trying to get to grips with the technique rather than looking for an ace photograph at this time. Will post it later today.

William, I have had many attempts at this also, and so far out of about 200 plus frames, I have only one aceptable one. The one I have not tried so far, is shooting in a very dark room, which I beleive maybe helps.

As promised an example of todays work (950 shutter releases later). Thanks for all your advice, long way to go with this but starting to get the basics.

Hi William

It looks like you have missed focus on this shot. I find using a cocktail stick or similar placed under the water drops works really well, focus on that then remove and take the shots, also F2.8 seems a bit shallow to me! What settings are you using?

Thansk and yes I agree some work still to be done there, but was focusing on technique not the elusive perfect shot just yet.

TV Mode 1/250, f2.8 of camera flash to the side, taken with Canon 7d and efs 60mm f2.8 macro lens

Put it in manual mode and select the shutter speed and apature yourself - otherwise the depth of field will be too small

Hey guys,

I've not tried this myself yet-have to admit, I think I've underestimated how tricky this is!

So, no advice from me, but I'll be watching this thread with interest!

I'm gonna try have a go at this water photography over the weekend but don't have any other flash other than the pop up one on the 40d. What are my chances of it still working or could anyone suggest a flashgun that I could go for.

Di
