The idea I have in mind for a shot for tomorrow is a la the movie 'Watcher in the wood'. I imagine using my daughter with her back to me on the edge of (our local) woods and a bright light coming out of the woods. I imagine my daughter would have little detail visible on her, the trees are visible'ish and a bright light from in front of her...

Hope I explained my 'vision' correct.

I was thinking of shooting early'ish in the morning such that I have the Sun behind me for this spot which passes some nice light into the woods. Then inside the woods setup my tripod with my Nikon SB900 on it effectively pointed to myself. Use my D7000 in commander master mode and the SB900 in slave. Then have my daughter in-between me and the flash.

My little indoor test shot seems to surpress the light quite considerably of the flash. I guess I should use it in manual, full power and the spread beam right?

I was thinking of shooting at f8 to f16 to try and get a bit of depth of the woods.

Any tips on trying to maximise the effect? Settings for the camera, flash etc...

This kind of style, but a little cleaner

Thanks.

Did you really? b****r I was sure I got them out of there. Couldn't see them on Mac with 30" screen. I wonder whether perhaps gamma changes following the upload or a different screen cause that as well?

After raw import into aperture I used Viveza to selective adjust various areas, followed by a small structure adjustment in pro sharpener output.

Maybe if possible to create that glow like in the poster you could use a car headlight, if your able to position it in a wooded area. I did one on a desert country lane that was surrounded by tree's. There was a bit of a dip in the road so positioned the car and then got my friend to stand in the road. came out really well. will try and find it and post it

Oh that is actually a rather good idea. Ashridge forest nearby me has got quite a few good places to do that where you can take the car into the forest.

Very good idea, thanks :)

Yes that would be a good place, if I remember one of the stretches of lane has lots of dips in it. Going to check the bluebells out there this weekend to see if they are ready

Yes I was going to go in the weekend as well. The car park I was thinking about is right opposite that patch where the ground is covered with the blue bells. I noticed they were there in the woodlands behind our house when I took the above photo last Sunday.

So you must be local(ish) as well? I'm in Whipsnade behind the Elephant enclosure :)

We visited Whipsnade Zoo about 3 weeks ago, it's the most local zoo to us and my kid loves it there!

We passed Ashridge on-route. Alas, there were no signs of any bluebells flowering then, but they do have a website with a phone number you can call to get an update on the bluebells. We go there quite often. If I remember correctly, they were flowering in mid-May last year (got some shots somewhere). I'm in Amersham, so it's only about a 30-40 minute drive from us.
