Silly to most of us I know but our lad goes to Afghan in a couple of weeks and we want him to have a decent watch, I gave him a silver Kinetic 6 months ago but it just wasnt strong enough for the army so on a buget of about £100 what does anyone suggest it has to be nylon strap and no fancy chrono dials just time and date we have been looking at the Traser range but dont know if they are any good I would have thought an auto would be best:shrug:

Thanks

Seiko "Monster" on a "Nato" strap would be my choice, but there don't seem to be many around just now

Basically this, but on a military strap

its looking like a Traser due to the fact if the sun catches it they dont glint like a speedlight at night lol

we are seriously thinking of the Traser p5900 or the p6500 but anything better flash:thumbs:

Seiko are fantastic my first watch for active was a seiko it was chrome case with a black dial and black leather strap but cant find out what it was it cost £200 in 1990

I've never thought of that, in which case you have to avoid any of the crystal lens don't you? That seiko sport says it has a crystal lens

My watch acts like a mirror, sometimes you catch a glimpse of the reflection on something and wonder what it is.

There's the Casio G-Shock range. The watches are designed to be tough - are shock proof, and some models come with both solar power and atomic clock syncing (though as I found out, this tends to be regional - UK and Germany for our signals).

This is the one I have - I have a habit of catching watches on doors, and while the strap normally gives way I'm nervous about how much longer the glass is going to last on my Seiko - hence one of these is now my daily.

nato strap £8 or so?

I bought the above watch when my old seiko started playing up (the automatic winder only seems to keep it going about 12 hours if not worn - Its only 25 years old, no quality :-) )

The seikos are reliable, robust, and seem to take whatever gets thrown at them. If you look around you'll find some with brushed steel rather than shiney, and I think you can get domed glass which doesnt flash like the flat glash does in the light?

Its cheaper to buy one of these than have one serviced.

If I was spending more, but still sensible money, I like these

Dapprman I thought about the G-Shock as my own watch is the G 510.
Eileen is looking at a Traser today in a shop in Scunthorpe.
Arclight thanks that is right up our street and really the buget is there to be broken as he is our eldest son and thankyou very much for the nice comment.

Thankyou all for helping

Good - let us know when he comes home again:thumbs:

I'd seriously consider Fossil as a brand. I've had 2 and my GF has had one too never had any issues, seriously good watches and none have cost us more than about £80.

How about something from here

As we in the Army say: G10 for men - don't bother - honestly - it'll get trashed and we get watches issued.
Get him a nice dress watch for a homecoming present.

I've been there 4 times now (plus 3 Iraq tours) and getting ready for a 5th Herrick tour in October, so I know of what I speak...

However, if you do, get nothing plastic or resin-coated as the insect repellent we use will melt the damn thing - likewise, make sure it has a crystal face and not polycarbonate - same thing - the mozzie juice will cause the face to go opaque...

Thanks for the help from everyone, we have decided on the Traser P6500 as it has everything needed and its Quartz but that is not an issue anymore, thanks to everyone and we are expecting photos back from Afghan as he has now got a camera thanks to Flash....yes you mate the Ricoh lol so we will even start a thread about his time over there as it happens

ive got a seiko watch (cant remember which one) but it put up with 2 years of abuse working on a rally test team, and the only damage is a scratch across the lens i did on a coat zip!

Thats good to know Rob we did look at the G10 but then looked at better ones lol
