Awww, one will never know. I've been doodling longer than I could write (I'm 47) and it's only very recently that it felt like my drawings has "matured" with it's own trademark thing.

The water challenge isn't about donating, it's about raising awareness and getting more people to donate and whether you like it or not, it's working.

It's a sad state of affairs but I'd agree it's working. People will only give to charity if they pour cold water over themselves. The worrying thing is put of how ever many thousand of sperm, they were the fastest!!!

I disagree with you. People lead busy lives these days and get caught up in there own agendas.
Sometimes it takes a challenge like this to give people a little nudge.

If it raises awareness and reminds people to make small donations to good causes, how can it be a bad thing.

Just seen a guy get wet in Glasgow on a Squinty bridge. He had 3 buckets as he clearly felt one wasn't enough! I am not sure I enjoyed it particularly that they video'd it really badly with awful backlight.
 
If people want to pour water over themselves before posting the resultant 'hilarious' vid on facebook , or for that matter post a picture of themselves without make up, or with their cocks in socks or whatever then fair play - if they need a facebook ego boost beforethey'll give cash to charity then thats their perogative.

However i do have two issues with these sorts of faebook viral campaigns

1) The idea that dunking your head in an ice bucket is anythng like suffering from ALS/MND (or for thatmatter that having no make up on is like suffering from cancer) , it isnt and to suggest it is is more than a little insulting to sufferers.

2) there are a s*** load of good causes out there but unless you are weathier than donald trump you can't support them all, so the bottom line for me is the I'll choose who i give my money to ( that is help for heroes , lifeboats, and JDRF (kids with type 1 diabetes) ) not some random on facebook - so when i get nominated but refuse to play their silly game it doesnt make me tight, or a bad sport or anything else in that vein .

If people were stood doing this in front of the thirsty African child then I'd have some time for its point. But they ain't. Lets be honest to complain about 'wasting' water in the first world is silly. I got up this morning, went to the loo (in clean water), had a shower (in clean water), a shave (in clean water) emptied the dishwasher, put the washing on and then went swimming (all in clean water) . When I got home I made a cup of tea (where I got the clean water from a tap). I imagine many, or even most of us did the same. without really thinking about it (as I didn't). It seems petty and somewhat sanctimonious to complain about the waste of a bucket of water. Its estimated that the average person in the UK uses 149 litres of water in a day. A bucket contains what, 10 of those? It strikes me that by complaining about this wasting water people are rather missing the point. Our water use isn't even vaguely comparable to that of the average person in sub saharan africa. I'm sure most of the people who think thats its clever to complain also flush the loo without even thinking about it.

And the Aussie bloke, yes he's funny. Of course there are lots of charities that deserve our support. Just cause one has found an idea thats captured peoples imagination and propelled it into the spot light for 10 minutes doesn't make it less worthwhile somehow, or does having a good idea make it target for everything else somehow?

Fixed that for you - personally i don't have an issue with the campaign per se (and i agree that 'wasting water' is a daft objection ) , i'm sure that the charity concerned do good work , however the trend of facebook viral post a video/picture and donate £3 to xyz charity is geting a bit old... and the people who realy p*** me off are the ones saying that those who refuse to participate when nominated are being tight or bad sports or "do jog all for charity" ( I know you arent saying that btw - this isnt aimed at anyone in particular here)

A couple of years back I walked 87 miles in 21 hours and raised over a grand for help for heroes , next march i'm doing the grizzly 20 mile off road race for JDRF (with a target of raising 5k in sponsorship) and so forth - if people want to call me a tight arse , they need to do considerably more for charity than stick their head in a bucket of water before i'll take them seriously

I wouldnt say the challenge was stupid , but saying that "having ice water poured on you affects your nerves just like people with ALS "sure as hell is - the effect of having Ice water poured on you is possibly vaguelyy similar to what people with ALS live with with the rather major difference of the lack of pain and the fact that it only last a couple of seconds

Wasn't the ice bucket thing started by whatever the ALS charity in the US is called. Macmillan seemed to take it over in the UK. I agree with you sentiments entirely though about people who seem to think its the only way to raise money and offer support
 
I think you are right - but i meant that they'd nicked the basic idea from the NMU selfie - personally i suspect we're going to see a who load of these viral facebook campaigns over the next year or so ,probably getting increasingly stupid and potentially dangerous

ive done the challenge... nominated by my stepdaughter.. was bloody freezing then made my donation.. job done no biggie... but what gets my goat is those that harp on about waste of water. sorry but please get an education and learn about the water cycle.. f evaporation, condensation, precipitation, infiltration, runoff, and subsurface flow. water doesnt just magically vanish never to return, its fed back into the eco system one way or another so isnt wasted.
sometimes it takes doing silly things to raise that awareness ( while also having a bit of harmless fun and giving afew quid to charity ). red nose day, comic relief etc.. lots of people doing silly things to raise money. dont see this as any different really and no ones forcing anyone to do it.

apart from the peer pressure on facebook and all the brickbats thrown at people who don't want to play when nominated - personally that isn't going to force me to do anything, I choose what i'll do and anyone who doesn't like it can go forth and multiply ... but there've been a few cases lately where the vilification of people saying 'nope not me' has got seriously out of hand
 
Its just occurred to me after watching the Umpteenth mad mate throw (have had thrown) buckets of ice and water over them .
I'm sure that it has also raised awareness that tesco, (other supermarkets are available) sell ice cubes in bags.

I'm sure they are also very grateful for the increased sales of said ice cubes. in this cooler weather :)

The great north run was on today, one of the runners was being interviewed prior to the race, he was running for motor neuron disease

The interviewer asked him about the ice bucket challenge they'd organised, he said it's raised £6,000,000 in the last 2 weeks for their charity alone


I think that answers the question on whether a few buckets of water wasted really matters when numerous charities worldwide will have received similar amounts

My daughter did it for ALS and raised £13 , four of her friend did it with similar amounts raised

It's ok saying just donate the money but it doesn't happen in real life, awareness generates donations

How many people including me had never heard of ALS before this

according to the BBC the actual figure is 2.7 million for MND Assoc in the UK -its still worthwhile of course , but what if I told you that you don't have to dump ice on your head to donate to charity
 
Perhaps it was 2 million he said , still a lot of money raised by free publicity and having some fun, but you're correct it can be done without any fun at all by just pressing a few buttons on an ipad

Luckily we live in a free country where nobody stops people having fun in order to raise large amounts of money for charity.

I really don't get why so many people are moaning about this
