Wasps

Always see a lot of wasps but then they are one of my favourite critters.

It is possible that the lockdown has altered their food availability and so they are ranging further afield to forage.

Normally we see lots of wasps around August and September but the last week there has been loads in and around our garden. Anyone else experiencing this?

Queen wasps looking to start nests ?

There appears to be a tree wasp nest near me. I am getting a lot on our gooseberry bush they love it. I saw one collecting wood today. A great photo opportunity for me.

Are they visiting flowers or are they on a flight path to and from a location?

Doubtful. It is likely to be the warm weather. Because of the changes to the weather globally, some flowers and plants blooms early or later, and some animals are around early or later, than normally would. Therefore chances are, wasps could be around a bit earlier than before. With or without the lockdown anyway.

Be careful, I inadvertently disturbed a Wasp nest a few years ago, it was in a pile of old wood at the back of the garden.
Had to leg it as they came after me, so lucky the shed was open so I could seek refuge
Lots of stings on my arm, some went septic and needed lancing by a nurse at the local GP surgery
Felt a bit rotten for a couple of days, could have been a lot worse though

Don’t seem to be on any particular flight path just general movement.
Probably not a nest very close to you then just a food source.

Maybe but just seems to be several flying about on a daily basis[emoji848]

I have only noticed a very few queens.
Lots of bees about. Very much more than in recent years. Not just around my garden, but everywhere I walk in open countryside. Glad to see these guys.
