HI all.

Is there any way of washing a camera bag. My very naughty dog decided it would be ok to pee up it!!!

I've tried hand washing it but it still stinks.

Any ideas??
 
I've just taken the inserts (and the equipment :D) out before and shoved my Burton Zoom in the wash - just whacked it on a standard 40˚ wash and it came out fine. Haven't tried with my Vertex 200 yet, which is a bigger, less flexible bag. I'm sure it'll go in if I give it some welly :)

Hoover the insides out first - if there's anything like grass or paper inside it'll just avoid it sticking and getting ground into the fabric.

Absolutely, take all the inserts out and pop it in the washer - it'll probably take a while to dry completely, but as you say, if it doesn't work, you've lost nothing...

if you can't fit in the washer, try washing in your bath, with an ariel tab. Finish off the drying in the airing cupboard.
 
I've always hand washed mine, but left them to soak with some washing detergent for a couple of hours beforehand.
 
Bicarbonate of soda usually removes pongs from kitchen stuff - maybe it will work if you wash the bag down with it in the sink or bath and then leave it overnight. Another pong remover you could spray on the bag is the shoe freshener type stuff for pongy shoes - available from Clarks shoe shops. Hope it helps.

Be careful you get "machine friendly" ones... or go to a camping shop and get some "Tech Wash" which is used for washing goretex and other breatheable waterproof fabrics. You can also get waterproof spray to reapply afterwards
 
Lyn, I am not going to go into explanations as to why, but last year I ended up with a bag that stunk of fish, smoked mackerel to be exact and NO amount of febreeze, etc would shift it, so into the washing machine it went, inserts as well.... a total of 3 times, plus about a week hung on the washing line outside... it's a cheap Tamrac, it is still in one piece, still looks good and is as weather resistant as it was prior to it's oceanic encounter. Good luck, don't boil wash it and it should be ok hopefully :thumbs:

Did Gollum catch up with you :lol: or was it cat vomit ?

One of my neighbours cats puked on my rucksac once (fortunately just a cheap standard ruck rather than a camera bag) and it stunk even after being washed - I chucked it in the end

:lol: nah, neither... more a 'doggy bag' incident after eating at a very good fish restaurant and not being able to finish my meal...then forgetting for about 12 hrs I had not finished said meal and brought some of it home, wrapped in tinfoil, for the mutts to finish off :bonk:

Great news. Hope it dries out okay and no more leaving it where it can be used as a toilet !!!
 
I'd never get mine into our washing machine, it's too big and too rigidly padded. I'd have to take it in the shower and give it a scrub. Thankfully our dogs never get any where near my bag, but I do see the cat sniffing it regularly when it's been out with me.
