There would have been a pretty big fight to see who could get their pics of the housemates on their websites first I guess 
- also I am guessing they needed to get them back to the office pretty quick so they could get to press.

Yep, most of the events I cover many of the 'togs are now using Macs with those mobile broadband services.
Theoretically, pictures can be submitted to the picture desks within a couple of minutes of them being taken.
What an age we live in!

Most DSLR's will have drivers for mac's and you then just need something like a Vodafone wireless broadband adapter £30 per month??
Most paps use them for big events like this because papers and agencies would receive so many of the same shots that most Editors work on a first come basis, and as they may be freelance you must be quick to get them edited and sent to earn your crust.
You don't have to use macs but I think the main reason they do is becuase they are generally smaller, lighter and more reliable than a PC Laptop.
