arse.... fridge out of warranty by 2 weeks...

and it goes wrong. I wonder how accommodating John Lewis will be in the morning, especially when I start speaking very loudly... about the quality of their named products,....

A tip Lynton. Don't go in with all guns blazing. JL have excellent customer relations ratings. I suspect a polite and low level word in the ear of a manager will have it sorted at no cost to you.

It's like a sport to him, Bob.....he'll go in with rocket launchers, RPG's and a selection of chemical weapons, make no mistake!! ;)

Well first thing Lynton, don't be snotty to them. Bone up on the facts and take them with you. The warranty may only be a year, but something like a fridge, as a consumer you have rights, and one of them is that it is fair to expect the appliance to have a reasonable working life. One year is simply not reasonable.

Before we bought ours I actually contacted the manufacturer and asked them how long they thought thier units should last and I got in writing from them that they expect thier appliances to last for a minimum of five years, with a reasonable life expectancy being seven years. I have that in writing and if anything should occur in the next three years I'll be using it as ammo.

Stay calm and reasonable, but be firm.

Why am I seeing close up shots of holsters being done up, ammo clips being thrust into automatic weapons, boot polish being applied to his face and a bandana being tightened, all accompanied by the theme from the A Team!

Because it's Saturday night, and that's what he always does on a Saturday night.....it's no secret!!

Can't wait to see what kind of attack/escape vehicle he makes in the shed out of an old BBQ, some paint tins and a rusty garden spade......it could be epic!!

Doesn't matter. Soga is good for up to 6 years. I'd expect a fridge to last 5 years minimum.

I'd just say you're disappointed and expected it to last a lot longer. Be firm but reasonable.

Check fuse in plug first if its stopped working altogether and interior light doesn't come on.

you all misjudge me....

I know how to "play the game".... just saying disappointed thast 2 weeks out of a 3 year warranty.. it goes "meh"

it hasnt stopped working, it just thinks +11 is a reasonable temp...

Then yes, it has stopped working
It;s supposed to refridgerate, not ambiate :D

ok fair point, but it has power and light, therefore no need to check fuses etc....

Patrick, it's in exactly the same place it has been for the past 3 yrs and 2 weeks.. in the kitchen, by the back door.

Is that the temperature check on the fridge or a separate thermometer?

Parents one went mental and thinks its warmer than it is so it runs too cold. It has cooker on one side and back door on other.

Wonder if the stats gone in yours so it thinks its colder so doesn't cool? Could be simple fix. Also worth doing full defrost cycle and making sure all drains and such like are ok.

2 weeks outside warranty suggests it has a built in timer :)

I think, under the consumer act of 1982 if you can prove its a mechanical fault and not something you have done the shop must help you! ( Which is replace it) And they can't send you to the manufactures as the sale agreement / contract was made between you and the shop!

Worth a google before you speak to them :)

Turn it upside down and leave it for 6-8 hours

:plusone: Although I thought that only worked on the certain types of fridge that had the big tank in them:shrug:

Loading the battlebus as I type...:thumbs:

Doubt they'll be too bothered Lynton, last year I bought a new fridge from them, thermostat or whatever controls the temperature was not working properly. Phoned up to complain and they said they would arrange a engineer to visit. I told them not to bother but send another fridge as the one I'd bought was only two weeks old.
Next thing I know they have cancelled the engineer refunded my money without any agreement from me into my account then they said they would arrange uplift for two weeks time, yeah right, like I was going to keep it in my house for them. I informed them that the fridge will be waiting for them outside in the garden for them. Unfortunately it got quite messy with bird poo which they tried to make me pay for the damage, I told them I'll see them in court ...never heard another word from them. I'd never shop with them again.

It's a shame you had such a poo experience with John Lewis. I've never been a great one to sing the praises of retail outlets (as most if the experience I believe is down to staffing), but we've bought many appliances through them, and I have never experienced anything but the most helpful and agreeable service. It does pay to know, and firmly insist on your consumer rights though.

There lies your problem then

They may not have been particularly environmentally friendly, but they were pretty good at thier job

Chuck Norris has no use for a refrigerator ,his food knows what temperature it should be.

most disappointed....

their opening offer was to replace and deliver FOC a brand spanking new one (new model as well) .... no room to argue...

I must admit, there are times wen I've hyped myself up to complain and then been faced with a relentless and unstoppable onslaught of good customer service. I felt robbed!

Thankyou...

genuinely amazed at the service......... didn't even get a chance to quote SOGA or Limitations act...

"Can you give us an hour and come back, after 3pm?
"Sure, we'll go and eat...."

Went back at 4pm - ish and their opening offer was to replace new for old updated model 3 yr parts and labour, install new and remove and take away old...

That's without checking the old one out..
