whilst browsing around for D700 prices last night I came across dilones.com offering it at £1448, a too good to be true price, digging on the site shows on their about us page shows them claiming to be a registered trademark of Red Onions Ltd, giving VAT Reg number and everything, Red Onions are a legitimate company, I went to the Red Onions site and they already had a warning on the bottom of their home page about another site claiming to be part of Red Onions, I since emailed them as a heads up and they confirm its a scam and nothing to do with them, just a warning should you come across them

also dilones.com has only been registered since september but they have two testimonials from happy customers from August

Hay please have a look at this site too and see if you think its legit? the prices for camera gear are realy great but the contact phone number is not working and it doesnt have cumbria as a region when signing up... let me know what you think please ? Cheers

Which site would that be?

I am sitting here hitting myself over the head because I sent £150 to these people for a Canon flash. Please don't tel me what I should have done I KNOW THAT!!!

I have written to Barclays Bank who take the payments telling them that I think they are acting complicitly in this scam with a copy to Crimewatch. Will not do any good but I feel slightly better for it!! :O) DO NOT SEND THEM MONEY

How do people actually find these websites in the first place? What do you search for?
I normally start with camerapricebuster and go with the recognised names. Why do people even take a punt on a "too good to be true" price from an unknown vendor anymore?

I just found an SB 600 on this site, via googles price comparison product search thing.

Thought it looked too good to be true at £159 new, so I did what I always do and searched for a review on the site which brought me back here.

So it looks like our site is very helpful ;)

And there ain't no camera shops in Devonshire Square either.

Looks like a virtual office.

LOL This thread is now the number 1 search result in Google for "Dilones".

Good work.

nice to see that we have a customer service remit as well as all things photographic...

Thank you everyone on this site for warning about Dilones.com.

They came up as being the best price (by about £50) for a Canon 430EX ii and I very nearly bought from them, but something about the site didn't seem quite right - not enough information.

I googled their telephone number and found one, but that is a disconnected line.

I tried to report the potential scam to Visa, but only managed to speak to an incompetent foreigner who said that they weren't really interested and that I should contact someone in my own country ... the Visa number was a UK number, so I gave up at that point.

However, I agree that Dilones.com does appear to be a doubtful site!!

Chris.
