Yes
the rubber hand grip is coming away from the body of my 550D :shake:. I've done some searching and it looks like some 60D customers are also experiencing the problem. I've not seen any recalls or statements from Canon

Has anyone else had this happen or heard of any issues?

Happens with most rubber handgrips over time it seems.

One of my friends with a D300 is having exactly the same problem.

Doh did I post in For Sale section? Sorry
Not happy with Canon and was in a rush to share this and warn potential buyers.

Use some supper glue!

i had always trouble to seal rubber to plastic on similar devices. Like radios etc. Was you able to fix it?

Same is happening on my 550D although to be fair it hasnt really bothered me that much. Searching around a bit on the net I see most people seem to just do a careful fix with superglue although im not sure I would go down that route myself.

Why should we need to fix em ourselves? why can't Canon say oops sorry our bad we'll fix em.... This way making happy customers willing to come back for more.

How long would you expect it to be ok before things starts falling apart? in my case normaly just after warrenty runs out lol but in this case its still covered, so back it goes.

Is that the same as dinner adhesive?

You've heard of Thai sticky rice haven't you? ;)

If it was me I'd use a contact adhesive (Evostick) rather than superglue.

Canon are advising people not to hold on to their camera`s so tight, as warmth from the hand is the cause.

Sounds like Steve Jobs was a special adviser to Canon's PR depot

Nikon deny there is an issue with their rubber grips, which is odd as they've been stretching and peeling off ever since they started fitting them...

I was looking at the 600D in Dixons Heathrow a while back and the rubber grip was hanging off, not the best advert!

I don't have the problem on my camera, but the OP has asked a serious question and has received a lot of flippant replies.

The forum has a lot of member and if a problem crops up with a new camera should we not be trying so either sort it out or make the manufacture aware there is an issue.

If we all laugh it off and take the mickey so will Canon.

I don't have this model of camera but I agree with the above, it might be a joke to some but it would be devastating for me, wish I could offer some advice but I don't know the answer hope you get it sorted though.

Me too.

Someone on Flickr said they sent their 60d back to Canon and they fixed the rubber for free- give Canon a call?

+1 But also keep in mind it requires you to send the camera away meaning you'll be without a camera for anywhere from a few days to a couple of week's. And if it's out of warranty expect to pay to get it sorted. Alternatively, take it to a near by camera store that also maintains cameras etc and see if they can fix it on the cheap?
The rubber's only an aid to help you grip the camera, it does nothing on a 550D in way's of sealing the camera. But I can understand your frustration

Hope you get it sorted!

If a rubber hand grip failed due to hand warmth I'd say that was a manufacturing fault and the hand grip wasn't fit for purpose. Pathetic build quality not to have a glue that is ok with body temperature warmth when it is somewhere that is going to be held!
