Warning: 40% Sigma Price Rise 1st Feb!

ok so sigma are not going to sell anything...

so the strong yen hurts the Japanese (as anything they sell is expensive)

and at the same time the weak pound hurts the UK (as anything we buy is expensive)

isn't about time the """""""""""" CLEVER PEOPLE""""""""""" did something clever?

I'm talking about profiteering on the forums....i.e. buying for one price then selling later on for an inflated price. That's not on.

Don't suppose you want to sell the house you bought 20 years ago for the same price?? I thought not!

Hmmm... what would you have the 'clever people' do? Markets and (specifically currency markets) are driven by macroeconomic fundamentals. So, you want a sterling appreciation? Easy! That would require a nice big cut in government spending, and nice big hike in personal taxation, and a nice big hike in the central bank interest rate (i.e. a monetary contraction). So, assuming the Marshall-Lerner condition holds and this gives you your desired stronger Sterling, do you suppose you will have any money to spend, with fewer jobs, higher taxes and mortgage repayments that will make your eyes water, do you anticipate this will be a better situation?

Seriously, if you want to go back to 10% interest rates and a recession that would make the 1930s look like a minor stutter, then by all means implore the 'clever people' to do something...

Now, don't take that personally, that was my long-winded way of saying we need to be realistic, sit tight, and consider the more important aspects of our daily life that whether the next lens we want becomes more or less affordable in relative terms. :)

For those who want a Sigma 10-20mm and are afraid it will jump in price as of tomorrow/monday, consider going to your local jessops. You can use the voucer code online 'NEWYEAR20', to get £20 off anything else you might want with your lens and then go to collect in store. It's what I'm going to do...

This is redicularse.
More and more people are losing jobs, getting houses repossessed, yet the price of everything is still going UP.

Hardly surprising we're in the poo really........

I guess the moral of the story is to buy British, items made from components made in Britian. If you are importing then you are going to get hit by the weak value of the £.

I do agree with your sentiment though...we are in the *****.

I don't think this code applies to bodies & lenses.
I tried this the other day and although it accepted the code, it didn't apply the £20 saving.

Bought my 10-20 today from Park £322), and have just ordered a Nikon SB600 for £156 - must be old stock. Have spent far more than I wanted to but at least my outfit is almost complete, just a tripod and backpack bag to go......

I feel the same if it helps. I never intended to buy a Sigma 10-20 this soon, but now I have it looks great, and it completes my setup for the coming months. Fairly good quality glass in across the range and a decent flash is probably all I could want... I wont be happy if this 40% thing is just a publicity stunt though...

Clifton have raised the price of the 50-150mm by 18% for CaNikon and getting on for double that for Pentax, Sony and Sigma mounts.

SRS got fresh stock yesterday, but aren't yet showing a price change. Their site doesn't indicate when an item is out of stock.

The guy at Park didnt know about it, but he didsay Nikon hadnt ruled out further increases so no doubt Canon are the same. The £ has dropped 40% against the yen in last 12 months, so I am sure the rises are coming.....

oh a sh 10-20 went for £280 on the bay, would rather pay the extra £40!

My 70 -300 vr went from £299 to £340 overnight, but Park held the price for 48 hours - decent people.

so isn't the thing that the ""CLEVER PEOPLE"" should do is to start to invest in British jobs for British people manufacturing and selling to the world - we should be able to sell ideas technology, and skills to make the pound and UK strong again. (so we can get cheap lenses).

the problem with that is that it would not be that clever - for the reasons pointed out by yourself. we need a better quality of clever people to fix this problem.

Oh look its smart arse again. :cuckoo:

I'm clearly not talking about that....I'm referring to trading on the forums i.e. buying from the forums and then selling it again on the forums - is that clear enough for you? :bang:
