So I noticed yesterday while shooting with friends that I see a very yellow cast on my 5D compared to all the cameras we had together...
It isn't the uv so it has to be the lens

Anybody with a 50/1.4 noticed the same?

Thanks all

Just courious did you try one of their lens on your camera? it might be your camera settings otherwise or the lens. Wayne

Hello Wayne

I did not actually do that but I first had a nifty fifty on my 5D which, if anything, was slightly on the cool end...

I have put the 70-200 on the 5D and it also looked "normal" as in, not so warm.

Maybe tomorrow I'll swop lenses between my 20D and the big gun and see if the 50/1.4 also looks warm on them...I would like to believe it should or someone will have to cue the "Twilight zone" theme...:thumbs:

Were you all using the same type of camera with the same settings (esp. WB)?

It's hard to say that the 50mm is the problem without a much more controlled set of tests. Manually set the WB and then take shots of a magazine page using different lenses under consistent lighting. Then you can compare results.

Auto w/b is notoriously unreliable, just throwin that in there, its one of my duties as team captain of Obvious UTD.....:D

It must be the white balance. I tried out a D300 yesterday and it gave the picture a really blue tint, it was on tungsten. Maybe yours is on daylight.

It is warm looking through the viewfinder and previously it wasn't. Was too lazy to do any really worthwhile tests today as I was indoors mostly nursing a light cold.

Will see what tomorrow brings and maybe do a few comparative tests...

Hi Pxl8

This was more of an observation after looking through the viewfinders of a D80, 10D, 300D and my 5D within seconds of each other. All had different lenses on but all consistent in terms of viewfinder "temperature" looking at scenery (with my 5 being the odd one out)

I must calibrate my lappie monitor in this week sometime and so not much value was given to on-screen or printed results...purely the viewfinder...

Will post some results tomorrow hopefully

Again, not really a scientific test is it? I would expect a marked difference between viewfinders across a range let alone different brands and different lenes could affect it as well given the difference in max. aperture...

Difference in brightness yes... colour?

I dunno

but I do agree with the lack of scientific basis in my research up to now...

wait......this is just through the viewfinder, not in pictures ?
