A few days ago I looked on the WEX website at the Canon EF 70-200/2.8 Mk II.

It was showing as (something like) £1649 and was showing that you could get £100 cash back from Canon if you bought a 7D or 5D II between 4th Nov and 31st Jan.

The cash back offer is still there as it's coming direct from Canon.

However WEX have now upped the price to £1795.

Has the £ to Yen currency suddenly shot up for WEX and not other retailers?

I have read of this type of thing happening with retailers in the States.

What do you guys think - sharp practise?

If you dont like it dont pay?

They are entitled to sell fir what they want What about when shops drop prices by £100?

I would get it from Kerso - got a price from him after looking the other day.

I'm just suggesting that they have increased the price because of the offer from Canon.

I had a conversation with a salesman in Jacobs on Monday about the recent jump in prices. Going back a couple of weeks ago the 24-70 was £70 cheaper and the 100-400 was £100 cheaper.

He said that Canon had been been offering a bit of discount to retailers which had now come to an end.

I would never associate Warehouse Express with any kind of sharp practice. I've bought about £95,000 worth of equipment from them this year, which affords me a certain amount of insight into the way they operate, and as far as I can tell they're as straight as straight can be.

In that case do you think their buy-in price has suddenly gone up?

Of course they are free to sell at whatever price they choose.

It just seems odd that the price goes up just when Canon are having a rebate.

It has been stated many times on other forums that this is common practise with B&H in New York.

Maybe Canon were giving stores a £100 rebate, then stopped that and gave Joe Public cashback deal?

In which case all the other retailers will be raising their prices VERY soon or taking a £100 hit.

Also as WEX is so big I would imagine that their buy-in price to be better than most.

The rebate has been running since Nov 4th, and the lens had been 1649 for a while. Still a shame as I was hoping to order from them.

Hi

There was some special pricing in October from Canon allowing retailers to buy most L series lenses at better prices.

It ended at the end of October so Warehouse must have just sold out of all the stock they had at the October price and are now buying at the December price. Canon change prices on a monthly basis depending on the currency rate.

In terms of pricing Canon have strict European pricing so their buy in price wouldn't be much different to other retailers. They would get slightly better prices if they bought in Pallets.
