Anyone get an email from Warehouse Express saying they were upgrading their security and issuing a new password with which to log in?

I have just received that and am a bit suspicious.
Why not tell me just to change my password?

nothing for me yet

Edit:

Mine turned up now

probably means someone has hacked them and stolen all our details, that's normally why sites like this blanket update peoples passwords!

Yep... me too.

Strange but fair enough!

That sounds logical.

Just log into their site and do it from there if you're a bit suspicious i.e. don't follow any links from the email.

Yea, because emailing everybody new passwords is really secure :|

Exactly my thinking.

I have sent them an email pointedly asking whether there has been a security breach involved customers personal data being compromised.

I'll post their answer.

I phoned them.
They have been getting a lot of flak over this. Every customer's password has been changed.

They say that there has been no security breach.

It may be a week or two before customers can change their passwords to one they prefer.

It's a good thing to change your password every now and again anyway so it might be as simple as that.

bs- why did they change them all then? hrmmmmm

Me too

I'd be deleting my account.

THEY set your password, I think not. Thats security stupidity in my opinion.

They should have asked YOU to change the password.

Thats one security breech followed by security stupidity in my book :bang:

It's all a bit concerning really, not helped by the fact that they charged me twice for a £170 item i bought last week, luckily I noticed it on my bank account and got them to refund it!

I got the email too, but haven't got a clue where I'm supposed to log on! Is it in the checkout stage when making a purchase?

Either way, after that other thread where the TP member was sold a busted 5D2 by WHE and the company have dragged their feet in sorting the issue out, I'd already been right put off using them again, and now this.

I got the email, I'd forgotten I even had an account

I cannot find where to log in either without going through the purchase process.

They claim it is a general security update.
If that is so they should have sent out a warning email to everyone saying that it was going to happen.

They claim it is a general security update.

Which is obviously complete ballcocks. They've cocked-up. Either they've lost the whole password file or it's been compromised. Those are the only two reasons why they'd have needed to do something so drastic.

Yep, got one here too... I'll just open a new one if I ever go back to them.

 @Frank. You really gave em both barrels... Nice one matey

got it too - seemed very basic looking as well, like the Nigerian scam emails

I had one too. I was going to ignore it as it looked like a scam.

I think I'll just give them a very wide body swerve from now on.

The "my account" link is missing from the website unless I missed it somehow.
Someone has done a runner with all the passwords?

I got one. Thought it was a bit iffy, so have done nothing with it. I'd forgotten I had an account there. Not sure what I'll do if I ever buy from there again.

A couple of weeks ago my credit card company cancelled my credit card because a vendor had notified them that it had become compromised and they issued another with completely different details. It's probably a coincidence but it's down to one of the online purchases I've made over the last month or so.

I've asked WHE to remove all data they hold about me from their records, probably an over-reaction on my part...what are going to do, cancel my birthday?

What the hell...

"A message from our CEO"

Dear Alex,

I would like to apologise for any frustration and inconvenience our recent password change may have caused you.

As part of our security upgrade we have removed My Account from warehouseexpress.com and you currently cannot select a password of your choice.

We will restore My Account by Tuesday 15th June, when you will be able to change your password.

I hope you will bear with us in the intervening time. Your custom and loyalty is very important to us and we have been working hard adding new functions to improve our website. However sometimes you have to apologise when things go wrong and this is one of those times.

Kind Regards
David Harbord
CEO

How do you know it was down to an online purchase?
I had my card details used to make mobile phone top ups last year.
The CC company said there were numerous ways to get details unlawfully and could not tie it down to anywhere I shopped.

Has WHE reacted to your instruction to remove all data on you and any idea if that can be enforced. Be obliged to know the answer to that.
