Does one exist?

I was shooting a gig, and it was mainly Canon and Nikon users, and i got some many looks for having my Pentax...Not sure if they were like whats that? or something....

Now i have a Canon350D and i think its Pants compared to my K2000

But what do all you Canon and Nikon people think of us who use Pentax, Lumix, Samsung, Sony and Olympus

I don't get snobbery about brands. If it works for you then that's the right tool for the job!

I've seen countless prints in galleries from Holgas ;)

I really couldn't care what someone else is using, it doesn't affect me at all. Unless of course they are shooting large format and standing in my way :nono:

It's not the gear that counts it's the results. I don't do gear snobbery, I'm Nikon my mates Canon.

+1 to you lot. I'm a Canon lad, but who gives a funk? I could quite as easily been a Nikon/Olympus/Pentax person.

I do like discussing the merits of a new bit of kit, but all this "Holier that Thou" competitive shiznit between brands is so so sad.

I'm not bothered about other people's equipment, but I do silently judge them :D

there is a lot of leg pulling on here but it's all a bit of fun...... mostly :suspect:

I have seen it at times on other forums (and here on a few occasions) .. it may be just an off the cuff remark or joke but I have seen a few Pentax owners swap brands because of it.

Next time it happens just take a print out of THIS with you ;)

Pentax made the mistake of not bothering with digital when it first came out and then when they realised it was the next great thing bought out some decent cameras but decided to trade on their name rather than advertise (to their cost). Things are certainly changing now with the K-7 and new K-x.

I reckon most people suffer some snobbery but only when they have Nikon or Canon I must admit when I got my Nikon I did so after looking at Pentax etc but it was the price that made me do it in the end I had mine for £239 Kino D60 not the best but my god what a price lol

I have a Canon camera but Pentax bins, they have to go in different bags as they're always fighting ;)

WOW, What a great achievement for Pentax

I am looking to get a D70 from the trade section, i think i meet the forum rules criteria :)

Nija edit: 100 posts i need... or can i buy with less than that?

You can buy when you want :) rules only apply to selling and wanted ads

You can buy from zero; just need 100+ to sell... it makes sense if you think about it ;)

You only need 100 posts to sell, as far as I'm aware you can buy with your first post...

Just had a peek at your Flickr page and there is some excellent stuff there.
To be honest I think you will have a hard job doing any better than THIS one of yours with any camera.

Camera: Pentax K2000
Exposure: 0.167 sec (1/6)
Aperture: f/4.5
Focal Length: 35 mm
ISO Speed: 800

Thats bloody impressive imo considering you are using a £250 body. 1/6 speed at ISO 800 ... and people say inbody SR isn't as good as in lens.

I do notice we don't warrant a mention in the Talk Equipment thread title though :suspect:

Thanks very much Mike, Pentax do seem to have a very good SR, so i have been given a whole load of older PENTAX len's to play with :)

I am investing in 50-200mm Samsung len's next...

I have been given a job at the local Live club doing photography, not sure if they shots are good enough?

What len's would you suggest i get?

Like everything in photography (so it seems) it depends on how much you have to spend. For gig photography : If you have no limit then the Pentax DA* 50-135mm f2.8 is superb, Sigma 50-150mm f2.8 is not far off for a lot less or maybe something like the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8. Having never done anything like this type of photography I am totally guessing as to what focal length you would need.

Its been the same as long as I can remember some people think everybody who uses a different brand from them is a moron and of course its always been a load of crap. You use what you can afford and are happy with and if you meet the saddo who thinks you are wrong just ignore him.I speak as one whose first camera was a Chinon and did we get some "Dixons own brand" stick until they saw the results

Not sure what the range is for your brand but something fast (f2.8 or better) and possibly a prime would be a start. It depends on how closer you can get to the stage, is it at the M Club? if so anything from 50mm up would probably be ok as you can get close. I'm in Crewe and go to the M Club a bit but I've never taken a camera as I wasn't sure what the policy was, do they mind folks taking there own kit?

Andy

Had to sell all my Pentax kit due to a rather expensive new roof being required

Had a K200D and when I got some cash couldn't find a new one to buy so bought a Canon 500 instead, mainly because it felt right to hold rather than the Nikon D90.

Sorely tempted to go back to Pentax and wil give the K-x a chance to iron the bugs then see what happens.

Must say the images were better on my Pentax especially for fine detail, the Canon isn't bad, but maybe that sensor is just a tad too crowded at 15mp

I don't worry what any one else uses it's the photos that count a cameras a tool nothing more. Some people wear them around the neck like a piece of jewellery.

There is an embryo of an idea in my mind that is tempting me to change over to Nikon.
Used to have Nikon film cameras and have a D70.
Nowt to do with any snobbery nonsense, but just frustrated with the lack of 2nd hand Pentax kit available / independent lenses often not available in Pentax fit.
Cannot even find Pentax fit extn. tubes.

Yes, I have seen that.
I have always changed the branded carrying strap for a plain one and blank out the camera name with a piece of black tape.
No point in advertising the fact that you have a lot of money hanging around your neck.

Every single lens I have bar the DA* 60-250mm f4 has been bought 2nd hand (incl the memory cards) and I currently have from 10mm to 500mm covered with good quality lenses. It is about but you have to be patient and look in the right places. As for the extension tubes I have a set with the A contacts (very hard to find I agree) but go on Ebay, bid on a couple of 1.4x and 2x A contact teleconverters then just knock the glass out. Much cheaper, just as good and you will be able to auto meter with them as well.

Hi Andy...

Well as far as i know, i don't think there are any rules, the events are owned/run by diffrent people, i do two events... and give the organizers the pictures...

I am sure you are allowed to bring your camera, i have seen others do it. I am just not sure if your allowed behind the barriers etc...

You use the tool for the job, if you think then Pentax is your tool for the job then good on you.

I dont care what other people use, its all good to talk to everyone, no matter what you use. There are other photographers:cuckoo: who have looked down there nose at me.:gag:

I only buy nikon cameras, mainly because they fit all my lenses:cuckoo:

well this is a refreshing thread - glad to see this forum is more about picture taking than what you take it with and you can talk about the merits of differant brands if you want to without being hounded out

with regard to Pentax stuff s/h there is loads on ebay - i got some extension tubes for around £15. or you could try the specialist pentax forum sale sections but ebay will probably be more fruitfull

I remember when i began to muck around with cameras, the beginers tool was the pentax k1000, a fine machine.. much cheaper than a nikon fm at the time .
Build quality great, and i learned a lot with that camera.
I still own it today with the 50mm lens i started with.
I always wanted a pentax 645, but never achieved it.

Pentax , great brand, respect.

I use nikon gear now but i do have a soft spot for Pentax..good on you for using what suits you.
