War Horse - anyone been to see it?

Went tonight to see it. Liked the film.... got a bit annoyed at the lighting (surely at sunrise, the bright bits of the gate / wall will be those facing the sun) and the HDR filming....

What's that all about? :cuckoo:
 
Brilliant film!! Personally I hadn't read the book, or watched it in the Theatre, so didn't know the story to it, but thoroughly enjoyed it.

I didn't really pay much attention to lighting etc myself, taken in by the story I guess.
 
Wish there was a film of the stage production. Yeah, the lighting was like a strobist overdose. I've heard it likened to "Gone With The Wind" and it's fun to look for the measures to avoid much grey sky when they've got the horizontal lighting. I thought Sir Steven had faced up to grey skies with that Private Ryan fillum?

I went to see it with a couple of Geordies who were gutted it wasnt actually about their horse.

My thoughts exactly. I'm often quite emotional about this sort of thing (ex soldier, animal lover etc. all the right buttons) but I have to say I stayed totally dry eyed.

I normally like Spielberg films but this was over-hyped over-filmed Hollywood rubbish, especially after seeing the brilliant theatre production.

I heard that she was worried about possible confusion between her and the horse star of the film.

What a load of rubbish though - hardly any of the requisitioned horses actually came back, those that weren't killed in action ended up as meat ration.
 
Gen. Jack Seely's "Warrior" had a good war...

It's an adaption of a childrens book and they mainly have happy endings :D

Not plannong to see the film as I'm going to see it at the theatre end of March, the animation of the horses on stage looks amazing
 
Having seen the stage production of War Horse, I'm not going anywhere near the film. It won't be anywhere close, and I'd bet the mortgage on that.

Last thing we went to see in the West End was Lion King. That was bloody brilliant. Been reading up on the reviews of Warhorse (theatre) and yep I think that could be a go-er.......

Does this really matter? The film was adapted from a children's book, and it's not a documentary.

Braveheart and Tombstone were based on real people and events that actually took place, but were nonsense in terms of any sort of historical accuracy. Gladiator was pure fantasy, but all three were successful films and I enjoyed them for what they were.

It was a decent movie, but certainly no Oscar winner. Some of the scenes were laughable, looked like they were set up just as a build up to an implausible event.

It ain't no Schindler's List or Saving Private Ryan that's for sure.

I would give it a 6.5 or 7/10.

I've seen the film and the stage show. The show is waaaay way better.
 
My mum liked it, and she doesn't like good films, and only watches rubbish on telly.

I just thought some of the bits were very far fetched.
 
The wife and daughters saw it yesterday I escaped and had a day with my son:D) They all said it was good and my youngest daughter said there were a lot of tears from the eldest and the wife but she didn't :lol:.
Apparently worth seeing.
 
Well i have had the most funny week at work convincing one of my colleagues who went to see it, that it was a true story. :shake: .. and then she has been telling everyone else it's a true story......... :love::D

Only to have another colleague further wind her up by doing the owl hooting call thingy..... :lol::lol::lol:
