Having sold my D2H I am looking at bodies (not the ones you find in the morgue) Although I do own all nikon gear I am not opposed to switching allegiances to other makes as I can sell the rest of my Nikon gear here but what I want to know is what can I get for about £600 thats better than the D2H

I know nothing about the D2H but for 600 squids you could get a brand new d90 which is what i'm getting in a few weeks. I reached that decision based on bang for buck prioritising Image quality.

And if I have to switch then I will be selling a 28-70f3.5d Nikkor lens. A 70-210f3.5 APO and a Nikon SB600 AND MANUAL 2X TC

Its not a buffer issue per se, its just that the files are big so if you shoot JPEG + RAW you are producing 28 megabytes of data per shot.

If you shoot JPEG at 100% dynamic range, you can shoot 3 fps, and a file write per JPEG is less than 1.5 seconds. So 3 fps burst will write under 5 seconds.

RAW is slower, due to file size, its about 4 to 5 seconds to write a 25 megabyte RAF.

You can still do other stuff during writes, just not image review.

Funnily enough I brought my S5 Pro into work on Thursday to show a chap who was worried about the speed and his words... "its not that slow at all" - he ordered one BTW :)

I think speed wise I have been spoiled with the D2H and its 30+ images in 3 seconds but I am leaning towards the S5 as all the people that own them say its simply a fantastic camera and I have seen a a brand spanky one for £419 inclusive of vat bargain

Well the S5 Pro is going to feel slow compared to a D2H tbh!

I dont mind losing the speed so long as the image quality is superior with the new DR at 5 settings as opposed to 3 on my old S3

What are the main advantages/disadvantages over a D200

There is no real image quality advantage regarding DR. Same sensor more or less.

If you are happy with the S3 Pro IQ, don't expect big changes in the S5 Pro.

Certainly don't upgrade just for the additional DR "percentials".

No I have sold my s3 and bought it back for the missus but I have sold my d2 and now in the market for another body but I am torn between a D200 or the S5 and so far its looking like a new S5 as the speed factor no longer plays a part in my photography as I love architecture and wildlife more than action shots
