any recommendation

what's the going rate for 2GB/4GB etc.

something for my Nikon D90 and looking to get Sony TX5 compact which has HD video

7dayshop are normally pretty good. I think for HD video you want a fast card, I got a class 10 8gb one for around £15 somewhere recently but I can't remember where sorry - there was a link on here.

8gb for £15 sounds good to me. will do a search

That depends on the camera. On the Nikons, with them only shooting 720p and using M-JPEG codec, you only need about a 3MB/sec transfer rate, so Class 4 will be fine for your D90 (I use a 16GB Class 4 in my D300s and it's never had a problem with stalling or skipping frames).

How fast you'll need for the TX5, I dunno. You'll have to work out the data rate (just record 30 seconds of video, and divide the total filesize by 30 to find out how many MB/sec it uses, and there's the speed you need).

i have yet got the Sony TX5 so won't be able to comment.

but a class 4 would be fine i guess.

any links to where to get it from?

last weekend I would've said mymemory, as they had a discount code deal goin' on. I picked up 3 8GB Class 6 SDHC cards from there for about 9 quid each.

Best prices really change from day to day at the moment as different places have their specials running.

ah man.

i'll be happy on something like that:
3 8GB Class 6 SDHC cards from there for about 9 quid each.

any links

Try play.com as well

thanks to all

will have a look at mymemory and play

play do a triple pack 4gb class 6 £18 which isn't bad

cool

i'll have a look there too

just ordered a sony tx5 (fingers crossed)

as it has video recording i might take advantage of this while on holiday.

how do i know what maximum class i need, as will be looking to get something before i go on holiday in 2/3 weeks time

I would have guessed a 'minimum' of class 4.

Mymemory are doing a Transcend 8GB class 10 for £15.99 at the mo.

slightly cheaper now at sub £14 and think i will order one for tomorrow for holiday ;-)

but why are other brands, lower class and/or lower memory more money than the transcend?

Probably because transcend have a bit of a bad reputation. Try looking at reviews for Transcend cards on Amazon, the failure rate is pretty high. Its not worth taking the risk IMO. Just spend a bit more and get a reputable brand.

oh, ok. thanks.

but that transcend was recommended on here as a low cost option.
so SD cards fail?

I've had budget to sandisk and no issues really

Then use whichever you like. :)

Transcend is 8GB Class 10 @ £14.

I'm looking for 8GB @ similar price area, but do I really need such a high class?
I'll be using it for my D90 and Sony TX5 Compact for pics and video.
Can you recommend me something from mymemory? Open to suggestions, but would prefer to buy quality than buy twice ;-)

i'll have a look at class for as an option

at the moment i have a couple of 2Gb sandisk extreme

would this be a better option:
Lexar 8GB 60X Premium II SD Card (SDHC) - Class 4 @ £15

or go for sandisk which seems to be the better brand @ £20
Sandisk 8GB Extreme SD Card (SDHC) - Class 6

thanks
i'll probably order the sandisk extreme 8gb class 4 @ £20 then

I know where you can get as many 1Gb cards as you like for £2 each! Tescos!! If you go to their photo developing section and look on the counter there should be a plastic box with something like "Blue Box" on it. They come in a small cardboard envelope and the idea is that they supply the software on this memory card then you use the memory card afterwards. £2 for a 1Gb card is quite good though

that's an interesting idea, but don't want to have a handful of memory cards on holiday.

another one i've seen is:
Kingston SDHC
Kingston 16GB SD Card (SDHC) - Class 4
£22 which works out £1.38/GB which is cheaper than the above option.

What's Kingston brands like?

I can't believe you haven't bought one yet. :)

In the time this thread's been active, I've seen special offers from about 4 or 5 different places on cheap Sandisk SDHC cards (cheaper than most of the "budget" brands for the same capacity & speed).

had so much on, but definately order one before the end of the week LOL

i was looking to get for my DSLR, but been holding off and budgeting for a compact camera for holidays ;-)

thanks

about to order off mymemory, what's there standard delivery usually take? if i order now, will i get by monday?

well ordered the scandisc 8gb hd video extreme class 6

if it might let someone else down use a good make (eg Sandisk ot lexar)

if its for youself use any. i am doing a wedding so i am getting sandisk, per onesalthought i have had no issue with cheaper ones. i have done a few events and found if you trust everything you use you will get on with your photography and not worry about your gear not performing

Cheers Steve
