Hey,
Im really interested in shooting some film, i have always wanted to have a go at doing some photography in film and now i am older and have done a photography course i think i am ready to give film a go.

Anyway if possible can anyone recommend me a good little camera for me that takes 35mm film. Im not serious about doing film so dont need a expensive camera i just want it basically to try out film.

Thanks

The Praktica MTL3 is one of the cheapest camera you can get with lens £4-£15. If you can get it with a Helios 44 or Meyer Oreston lens, then you will be pleased......of course with these old cameras you have to check for faults, so see if you can buy off someone you know.

Depends what you are after... slr or rangefinder or point and shoot? BW or colour - I assume colour as it's still reasonably easy to get it developed just about anywhere...

Depends a bit on what kit your useing at the moment, and whether you want to be able to use existing lenses etc.

Dave.

So - at a guess, Nikon right? Can get a cheap 301 film body for under £15 usually, sorted.

Hey,
Thanks for all the replies, I do quite like that practika camera you posted and for the price you said. In reply tpo the rest i would like a small 35mm SLR camera that shoots colour. It doesn't need to integrate with my kit at all as for the film all i really want is something like a 50mm lens just to have a play about with.

I dont intend to go serious with film its more a little experiment just to see what its like to use having grown up in the film > digital era and i myself only used digital i would love to have a go at doing some film.

roastchips it really depends on if you have a digital SLR already?

If you have then its always a lot easier to keep with the same manufacturer as you are already with, Well with the two main ones anyway. Olympus went and changed things but it only takes a little adaptor to use older legacy lenses!

Again I'd suggest an Olympus OM10 with a Manual Adaptor, £15-£20 for the camera usually, the lenses are cheaper than Canon and Nikon generally so easier on the pocket!

I've been using on old OM lens this afternoon they are fantastic still.

This is an example of the lens.

In fact I've been comparing it with my Leica Kit lens today and do you know it produces a better image ;)

I do all ready have a Nikon SLR yes but as i say i am not planning to go mad with film only really use it as a experiment so as i said in the other post and camera and a 50mm prime would suffice me easily.

Go for the Nikon F301 mentioned above,

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NIKON-F301-35..._Cameras_ET?hash=item414e291977#ht_759wt_1165

You'll be able to use the 50mm lens on your digital I know the crop factors slightly different, but I tend to use the digital like a polaroid get the settings right in my digital then transfer everything over to the film camera.

Being able to use the 50mm prime on your digital makes the expense worth while then.

Or...

you could look at the Olympus OM-2. Quite a small camera and dead easy to use. I bought mine for £45 including case, 75-150mm lens, flash, electeric winder, books and leather case all in perfect, and i mean perfect condition. I was very lucky.

Like you i'm only trying this film lark as i didn't originally want a film camera! I only wanted the lens but had to take the whole lot. I have run a roll of B&W film through and i must say it's great fun. It's perfect with a 50mm lens and you can buy Olympus 50mm f1.8 lenses quite cheaply. I will be using the camera more this summer as i think it adds to the whole photography hobby.
