For backgrounds that I can transport, I currently use MDF boards with wallpaper stuck on - however its a pain into carry to peoples homes.

I've seen the photography-backdrops website where they sell the vinyl rolls of wallpaper, but they all seem to be the "vintage" style and I'm looking for something a bit more modern.

Where does everyone else buy theres from, or what else do you use?

Instead of MDF try hardboard and use a flexible wallpaper adhesive. Hardboard can be rolled. How long it will last will depend upon the paper and the glue, and how tightly you roll it.

I've only tried it as small test pieces and it worked reasonably well, not sure how well it would scale up. Must be worth a try? if not, could you get the wallpaper copied and printed poster size to give more width, than stretch and clamp at the edges of a sheet of hardboard when required?
