Walking backpacks for camera bags?

Hey,
Just gauging what other people are using for rucksacks for hiking with the camera and tripod etc. I currently have a Lowepro Mini Trekker AW which holds my gear and tripod but that's about it, no hydration system and no space for clothing etc.

I mailed Thomas Heaton about his gear as I saw he also uses a hiking backpack with a camera bag insert but both of the gear he uses are now discontinued.

I've found a suitable camera bag insert on eBay number 371818705084 that'll hold my camera and a few lenses so that's good but my next dilemma is what rucksack? I looked at the bags in Mountain Warehouse, Trespass and Regatta and they seem to fit the bill but the reviews on them are not positive shall we say which is a shame as there is a rucksack called EuroHike Trek 65 that's cheap and big but reviews are shocking.

Can I ask who's using what please and also what size? I did plan to wild camp so thought the 65l would be the size I need?
 
65l would seem to be about the right size, but I'd be looking at something a bit better quality than those you've listed.

Berghaus, Osprey, Mammut etc. Any of the bigger named brands should do you well. Check out online as well as the likes of Go Outdoors for deals too.

I use 70l for camping and that's fine for me but depends an awful lot on what you normally carry, particular in terms of the big items, tent, sleeping bad, tripod etc. FWIW it's worth I use a Beghaus but since it's near 20 years old, it's probably not worth me mentioning which model. Seems durable though!
 
Definitely go with the higher end of the market. Like Graham I use an old Berghaus ( just for day walks, it's a 45 + 8). It's not light, nor was it cheap, but it's comfortable and will probably outlast me. Rucksacks are a little bit of a personal thing though, what's ideal for one body shape isn't necessarily good for another, so find a good outdoor gear suppier and try them. Any decent shop should have weights so you can see what the sac feels like loaded. I use inner waterproof liner bags rather than a rain cover - rain covers are far too much faff. Also look carefully at the style of the sacs. Some have external pockets, some don't. All will have a different arrangement of external attachments and one may be better for your needs than another.
 
Just to get different I use a Gregory so another make to look into.
Whatever you get make sure it's got a proper back support, mine is similar to Osprey and it keeps the pack away from ones back.
