i reckon that if i get 5% of my photos come out to an acceptable standard then i have had a stella day. one way to improve the amount of pictures i can be proud of is to simply take more. however most of the time taking my dslr out is not practical. so it`s a slip in the pocket walkabout camera i m after. i was thinking lx3 or maybe gf1. so here`s the question bit ,

if i went for the lx3 would i always be disappointed that i hadn't taken them with a dslr?

is the gf1 really pocketable with anything apart from a pancake lens on?

any other suggestions?

G11 or S90 ?

I have an LX2 and I think that it's very good and I'm sure that a LX3 is even better however I don't believe that these cameras (or the similar Canon's) can match a GF1 (or the similar Oly) in real world day to day shooting environments.

If you want a very capable "compact" I think that the LX3 will probably be a very good choice but if you want something that'll give better image quality (but be a little larger) I think that you'll be very happy with the GF1. I'm very happy with my GF1 + 20mm f1.7.

Have you looked at the BIG GF1 thread?

PS, I don't think that a GF1, even with the 20mm is really pocketable, I don't think that an LX3 is either unless it's a coat pocket.

No! not unless you have huge pockets!:D

I have an s90 and it takes awesome images and does RAW! Check out my s90 set on my flickr

i m impressed with the s90 shots, Andy. i see you have an gf1 as well. how do the two compare. the g11 looks quite a big beast for a compact. appears even bigger than the gf1, is it ?
