Wales Rally GB 2009

 for speeding on public roads? i don't remember that, but i remember gronholm arguing with the police about something hanging off his car, the police telling him he can't drive it on the road like that, and Marcus telling the copper "yes i can drive it like that, watch, i'll show you!" hillarious.

Bit's hanging of the car, that's nothing. I remember Tommi Makinen a few years ago trying to drive between stages with rear wheel missing before being pulled over.

Went last year and had a brilliant time - only had my trusty Nikon P5000 point n shoot cam with me and am very much looking forward to being there again this year with the DSLR. Going to do Thursday, Saturday and Sunday (Dont fancy the drive up to mid wales on friday.) Last year I managed to see 2 different stages a day and got to some great photo locations. Even found myself following Loeb over the Black Mountain on a road section. I found the non stop nature of it very thrilling, ie constantly on the move to take photos from different places on the stage, and then get back to the car in time to make it to the afternoons stage in time to get a good vantage point/parking spot.)

Does anyone have any advice on good places to camp around Cardiff? All the hotels, etc seem booked up. Last year i commuted to and from Bristol but dont fancy it again.

Drove down to show off our new arrival to his Gran in the Rhondda and noticed on the M4 the signs for the rally. Said to the missus I fancy going (the D200 and 17-50 have come with me), especially as it's probably about 10 mins away...

...gutted that you have to get tickets and go to cardiff to pick them up! Plus, £30 a pop - not exactly friendly to people who just fancy going as a one-off.

Gutted, as have never seen any motorsport like rallying in the flesh.

Thats a long walk
Special man I think you can pay at the gate, and £30 is for a day ticket

That's a bit more like it. I've just had another look on the website and yep, you're right, plus you can get a single stage pass that's a mere £20 ;)

Might give it a blast but nappy duty tonight might make me a bit tired :)

Rhondda stage run twice morning 8.10 am & 3pm afternoon entrance Rhigos or Bwlch

shows how things have moved on , i remember going when it was all over the country with the Group B cars , iirc there was no charge to go and stand in the yorkshire forests in the middle of the night freezing my nuts off
