Ive just checked the calander and noticed this is coming up early december. I really fancy going to it but having not been to a rally for 15 years + (when it was the lombard rac rally!) I dont want to go without getting prepared. Obviously I want to go with the intentions of getting some memorable images. Is there any maps/pointers anywhere on spectator points on the various stages? Do they get mad busy to the extent that unless your prepared to sleep in the car all night your not going to get a decent view? Any tips or suggestions greatfully received

I last went in 2005..I recommend Rheola..some good places there. Going again this year..can't wait! :)

ill be down there this year,

you dont need to turn up that early, some carparks only open at 5ish and you can generally get into the stage and out of the sheep pens, unless your near a nazi marshall post where they try to keep you in the pens, most marshalls are great though, as long as your safe they are fine with you being outside the 'spectator zones' as long as your above the road and in a safe place.

which stages are you aiming for the midwales ones or the ones around swansea?

a couple of years ago the rallyGb website did a POI for the carparks on the stages for satnavs, i dont know if this stretched to good viewing spots but i doubt it (any advertised viewing spots will no doubt be too crowded to be any good), i always try to get into stages early so i can walk a few miles check out my options and if i need to wander back to the best spot

Went last year to Crychan, got there about 7ish,Was a great day & worth every penny.

It does get busy, but as the day goes on people tend to move around a bit.

One word of advise wrap up really well because it get  cold, & take waterproofs!!

There were a quite a few who slept out, you may also want think about a campiing cooker or similar, because the only food van ran out after a while.

I was stuck in the arena bit for most of one of the days last year - chucked it down for most of it. One of my cameras died, but luckily came back to life the next day.

Really looking forward to it though, even though it is really hard work!

 some good advice there, thanks, ive not got any particular stages in mind, just going to see which day her indoors gives me off and take it from there

I went to it in 2006 and it was brilliant, I went to the super stage in Cardiff. I meant to visit the service park in Swansea but missed it last year. Hopefully this year I'll get some good candids etc around the service park which I believe is based down near the Marina? Either there or just off the M4.

Are any of you planning to meet up? Its right on my doorstep, lucky me :D

I think theres a thread in the "Meetings" forum

I'm seriously thinking about going this year - don't know where or how yet :)

I will be off to the stage at the stadium at least... It is only 5mins walk away after all.

Not sure about the rest yet, i will have to ask my sister as she wants to go (i know, i was surprised too!).
