About a year ago i took a very strange feeling in my head and my mouth went all funny. so off to the docs i go and he tells me to go home and have a rest....haven't felt right since ,do back to new doc and she tells me she thinks i may be taking MS as i have been having a few other symptoms as well and she refers me to neuro surgeon........3 months later still no appointment so i ring hospital to be to told that there is a 27 week waitng list.....asked if i could make private appointment and i seen him 2 days later ( that right 2DAYS). went and seen nice neuro surgeon and he tells me i don't have MS but i have taken a very minor stroke....:'( but hey i am still living. have to go for more tests but talk about a wake up call.......

PS i was 41 when i took the initial symptoms.

Sorry to hear that Michael :( But it sounds like you do everything right with appointments and chasing up tests so well done you for not just ignoring it. Now its just about recovering and keeping well, good luck.

Glad you are on the mend Michael. Had a wake up call myself recently and we are similar ages.

Found a lump in my chest behind my nipple and did nothing about it but eventually went to the GP after earache from my girlfriend. GP says nothing to worry about but we will do some blood tests. Went back for the results and saw another GP who dragged a third GP into see me and they both felt that I needed checking out at the Linda McCartney Centre in Liverpool (Breast Cancer Treatment Centre) asap. Said first GP should have referred me! Obviously being male I refer to this as Chest rather than breast :suspect: Anyway, I go and see a consultant who refers me for more blood tests and a follow up appointment for ultrasound / biopsy. I wait 4 weeks and no appointment is forthcoming. I ring them and they have no record of me needing an ultrasound / or appointment. This was in early December. I eventually am called in for ultrasound / biopsy in early Jan. Told I would have results within a week but heard nothing. Very calmly blew a fuse with them last week and now have another appointment for Feb 10th.

I feel ok and have not let it bother me as much as I could have but it has really affected my girlfriend who is pretty stressed.

I am also in the middle of swopping jobs and this has prevented me doing so as you do not qualify for full sickness benefits for six months at my new employer. I have to give 3 months notice to my current employer and was offered the new post in October. Thankfully my new employer wants me enough to wait what will be six months now (if I get the all clear!) before I eventually start with them.

Hopefully I will get the ok and will be starting in my new post in a few months. This has really given me a wake up call in terms of looking after myself a bit more and valuing the important things a bit more.

Take care Michael and stay well

Chris :)

Thanks for all the support guys and girls. Chris my thoughts and prayers are with you and hopefully all will be well......you should try to go private apparently this helps you get you up the waiting list when it come to tests and stuff......take care

Michael

Another one for the men on here.Check your nuts for lumps,I have to go for a scan on Friday due to a lump discovered a few weeks ago. Feel your balls daily guys,if you feel anything untoward, go to the doctors.Nothing to be ashamed or embaressed about!

Fracster, i had that many years ago.. big lump and blood in the semen. thankfully it turned out to be a cyst and that went away on its own.....defenately check your plums everyday guys.....best of luck on the scan....its good to talk about these things especially men talking as we seem to clam up and get embarassed.....

Hope everything is ok Ade  Nuts definitely need to be checked regularly as you say. Mine were recently checked by a gorgous young female consultant at the hospital :$ whilst talking about football.

Michael, thanks for your thoughts. I am sure everything is ok. TBH I am more pee'd off with having to chase appointments / results. Can't fault the people that I have seen, with the exception of the first GP but the systems in the NHS appear to be up the wall. Ironically the company that I am joining has a private health scheme. I will be joining that.

Chris :)
