So I've just installed photoshop cc onto a second pc and thought i should really learn how to use the lightroom catalogue properly.
So i thought the best place to start would be with a YouTube video (i find it easier to understand how things work by watching rather than reading).
Well i must say there are some truly rubbish videos on this subject. The presenters can't seem to stay on topic and start to "waffle on" about something else and then say we'll come back to this later. They seem to feel the need to make a 20 minute video, when 10 minutes would have done the job.
I've now settled on watching Julieanne Kost tutorials, they're well presented, clear and simple, don't deviate from the subject, step by step guide and don't last any longer than they need to.
So if anyone else is looking to use lightroom or photoshop for the first time, i can highly recommend Julieanne Kost as a good starting point.

Thanks for the recommendation. I agree about quite a few videos on YouTube. Some are very good but other appear to have been made by people who first thought of making a video about two seconds before they sat down in front of the camera - little thought about what they want to say, who is their intended audience, how they are going to present the topic.

Julieanne Kost bugs me how she says 'alright' every two minutes but she is very good and as you say doesn't waffle on too much.

I got my whole catalogue into a right mess a few years ago and it really put me off LR but it was purely down to user error, now I've watched and actually learnt what its all about I love it.

Yes i know what you mean. My Lr catalogue on my laptop is a mess, i will leave it as is though as the laptop is on it's last legs and start afresh on my pc. I'll take the photos i want off of it's hard drive and put them into the Lr on the pc.

I so agree with you about the waffle on Youtube, I appreciate that some people prefer to watch videos and that some topics lend themselves to pictures but quite a lot of the time I just want to know which menu option does a particular thing and I don't want to have to sit through a 20 minute video when 4 words would do
