Bear with me on this one guys and gals.

Currently I do all my processing in lightroom and use a mouse. When using the mouse I am right handed. When doing heavy duty processing (a chunk of time) I start to get pain running through my fingers. Once it starts it hangs around for a day or three, until I stay away from the confuser and it clears up. Now, when I use a pen to write I'm left handed - weird I know. I could try to teach myself to use the mouse in this hand, or try something different. My wife suggested I look at tablets and here I am.

If I try a tablet can it do all the work I would normally do in lightroom? Navigate the controls, pull sliders, brush work etc, or is it used just for certain apps while in there? I'd need it to do everything for it to be worth looking at I think.

How do you use yours and is it going to be worth me giving one a go?

Yes you can do everything you can do with a mouse with a tablet.
If you don't want to spend a fortune the Wacom bamboos are pretty good and quite a bit cheaper than the intuos

I got a tablet a while back and now complete almost everything in LR using it. I still use a mouse for navigating through folders on the computer but the tablet is so much easier for LR especially brushes. If you can use the tablet with your left and the mouse with your right that's perfect to have one either side of the keyboard.

I use a tablet for everything & have done for years - office applications as well as photoshop etc. I find it far more comfortable and precise than a mouse.

A lot of hand pain is caused by tensed muscles on the mouse. Which is often caused by difficulties holding the device or difficulties operating the buttons. We've had great success getting our users to either change which finger they use for operating the buttons or changing their grip so they can relax their fingers. Be sure your fingers are not spread wide apart either. As that is not a natural position for longer periods. These things are always worth trying as, if successful, gives you a greater choice of device in the future.

Thanks for that.

I could try to teach myself to use the mouse in this hand,

I had a similar problem to you but am normally right handed.

So I spent about 2 weeks forcing myself to always use the left hand to mouse and now I switch back and forwards left to right at random but try to use the left hand is possible as my right hand still seems to suffer more from this RSI type problem.

I can always tell when someone has been using my computer at work as the mouse wire is always trailing across the keyboard tot he right hand side !!

I did also buy a tablet and they are great for Photoshop but I found not so good for surfing and other general computer tasks so you will still need both.

I have the same issue - but manage it by the moment I feel pain I switch to the other hand... You only need to do it for 20 mins or so then switch back & means I can carry on for much longer ...

Either a tablet or a trackball might help, I switched to a Logitech M700 and after the initial learning curve it solved the pain I was getting from using a mouse. I still use a Wacom tablet for photo editing but I have 3 27" screens so a tablet isn't practical for my normal work (web development).

Go for a Huion 610 pro, they are an amazing tablet for the price.

I use mine all of the time, worth its weight in gold.

I have used a Wacom Bamboo for many years and wouldn't be without it. One very useful thing when dodging and burning or shading is pressure sensitivity.

Love my tablet! Once you get a bit of practice with it you will too.
