To cut a long story short, I have been working with a kid who has had a hellish first 14 years of his life. He has gotten into photography and is pretty good (very good actually). After completing a court case last week a few of us involved decided to have a collection and get him some camera gear.

I contacted Wack 61 (aka Darren) the other day to purchase the tripod & head that he had up for sale at asking price. Darren massively discounted the tripod & head without me asking for it. He also provided a small camera bag, 1 gb flash card and a printer (with some new ink carts). He wouldn't accept any money for the extras and told me to put it towards more gear for the lad in question.

I have met Darren a few times now and he is a lovelly fella. His gesture really touched me and I know it was appreciated by the lad because I have just delivered the stuff to him. He was speechless. He hasn't a lot of faith in adults and is only just beginning to trust people. He views everything with suspicion and it took me ages to explain why Darren and a few of my colleagues had helped out. When he had accepted that there was no catch it was like seeing a kid at Christmas. A kid that has never had anything at all other than hurt.

Work is sometimes tough. But days like today keep me going for another few months.

So a massive thank you to Darren  A true gentleman.

Chris :)

What system did you get. Maybe others will have some old gear not worth trying to sell which could be added to what you got him. I may have some old stuff in the loft.

Worth a try?

Kinda restores your faith in human nature.

I've dealt with Darren in the past and can confirm what a nice guy he is

well done to all involved and if you gave a list of what he has maybe someone [me] if poss could add to it.

i've known darren a few months now, he eats all my grub at oulton, laughs at my ineptitude, sniggers at my canon gear and uses me and my car to ferry him round the various good parts of oulton park.......apart from that he's a diamond geezer

:D:D:D

Good on both of you. Hope the young fella enjoys himself now too.

If you want some cheapy EBAY triggers for this kid, a transmitter and 2x reciever's, and a few older manual flashes, PM me, and i can get them all boxed up and sent off to you. You never know, this lad could turn out to be the next McNally given the chance. Like they say, From small Acorns grow great Oak Tree's:thumbs: Let me know

Hi Folks,

Thanks for the kind offers of equipment. He is now sorted with the gear that he needs at this moment. I won't be seeing him again now as my involvement has ended as of yesterday. A big thank you to people that made offers to send stuff. It really is appreciated, but I cannot accept gifts on his behalf for a variety of reasons relating to work. I was able to accept Darren's kind gesture because payment was made (even though he threw in a number of items gratis).

It really does make you think that there are many selfless people about in what is sometimes a worrying world.

Thanks again.

Chris :)

You're making me blush now Chris :D

I just did what I'd think a number of people on here would do in the same circumstances

If my wife had been there when you arrived you'd have been going home with a boot full including a motorbike on a trailer, she wouldn't have missed a garage clearing opportunity like that

In any case I was just returning the favour you did me with the eyecup and the lend of the guide to the D3, which I forgot to give you back :bonk:

If it wasn't for your 4000 calorie lunches I would have lost some weight by now:nuts:

That's a lovely tale :) Nice to see there are some genuinely good people in this world.

Warm's the cockles it does.

Well done to Chris for sourcing the stuff, and to darren for his kind gesture.

It makes me fee proud to be a TP member.

I've never met Darren, but bought a lens off him a little while back via here and the trade was perfect. I even think he was a little hard on the lens (description wise, as it was near mint in my eyes)

Anyway, nice one Darren
