now installing the Win10 Update Creators Edition as in "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1709."

This has been listing on WUP as coming soon for ages but now 'doing its thing'.......................will have to see what if any impact I notice, though I wonder what will be different ~ currently on Win10 Pro version 1607 Build 14393.1944

See you on the other side

PS seems to have been installing for ages, was stuck(?) at 25% for a long while now at 87% and climbing slowly ;)

I have had this update for a while now, I guess I must have been one of the lucky ones - or unlucky depending on your point of view

1709 started rolling out end of Oct AFAIK.

Not had any bother here.

Edit - update Tues fortnightly is more of a win 7 and previous thing. 10 updates come as and when.

Yup had this update for some time now. It's working fine with no issues.
There's some interesting new bits I've noticed. You now get a slider to decide power throttling, between battery life and performance, Wifi connections now say if they are public or private, task manager has more detail about processes. Windows updates, delivery optimisation, advanced settings - now allows you to decide how much bandwidth windows updates can consume, rather than stealing it all.
Volume mixer has changed (right click speaker, open volume mixer). Hyper-V improved and for office 365 users, One drive on demand is now included.

Theres a whole bunch of security features as well. SMBv1 has been removed, Windows defender has additional features, exploit protection and if you've enterprise win10, then application guard which allows you to use sandboxed edge browser sessions.

I'm sure there's more. It's quite a big update

it rolled out in my workplace over the last week or so and seems to have caused a problem with outlook whereby if you try and do a "save all attachments" in an email it just refuses and goes back to the list of attachments. Very odd, you can copy them as a group, saveas individually, but not save all. Doesn't really bother me as i tend to copy as a matter of habit but it has cocked up a couple of the engineers whose normal practice is saveall and aren't too chuffed about changing

Which version of outlook?

So far so good and some things seem a little 'snappier'...............a bit like a fresh OS installation has cleared a lot of bloating that slows MS OS over time???

Re Tuesdays ~ most on my W10 updates have been 'Tuesday' ones and some other weekdays!

Only had a quickish look round:-

Windows Defender - now a hub for all matters security e.g. more clearly recognising my ESET anti virus

Possibly more dumbing down i.e. stuff hidden deeper that might/used see and access easier?

It lost my default printer ~ easily sorted :)

it is office 365, tried rolling the update back to the version before the windows update to see if that helped and it hasn't worked
So 2016 installed from the one click install? There was some issue with search that was fixed by running repair. Windows Search Apps and features, scrolldown to Office, select modify and run the repair.

We haven't seen issues (yet) on our clients with a mix of Outlook 2010 through to 2016 and Office 365

Keep an eye on windows 10 spying parts - it resets all that and re-enables key logging send to microshaft as well as cortana listening to everything again etc.........the update seems little different day to day as it was before - but I had to remove all that again to have a 'local' system (i.e. nothing being constantly sent to microshaft)

Additionally I had to remove all the crapware that it installs by default now - i.e. all the MS default apps and games - I dont want bloody candy crush thank you - but alas it installs itself anyway (they do this in the hope you start playing, then start spending, MS gets a cut of the money) - also removed all the xbox app crap and loads of others that get installed taking up space.

If your unaware of this, its why originally windows 10 was free, microsoft used windows much like google uses search and account data - to data mine and sell the data - it still does this now unless you hack it to stop doing that.

The update has made no changes to the privacy settings, nor did it install any of the games etc, neither on work or my home machines, which suggests a home version of Windows 10 and you didn't disable/uninstall these apps as you thought you had?
You can disable these in the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows, create a new key called CloudContent, then a new Dword called DisableConsumerFeatures with the value of 2

Yes, I will be looking at all the various 'areas' and either "turning off" or removing etc where I can.

Any specific pointers as to where to look & double check such aspects???

PS I am on W10 Pro ;)

Windows search - Privacy settings.

Windows search - Privacy settings.

Ah! thanks.....now all set to off, either by default of carry over from previous 'settings' only the topmost one was "off" but now all are "off".

Any other none privacy related areas to be aware of?

That should be all the privacy stuff

Okey dokey :)

Oh! FWIW I unpinned the newly appeared MS Mail app...............more than happy with my MS Office Outlook so cannot see any reason to change to another client???

Nope, stick with outlook.
Not sure why it pinned a new app, it may put things in the programs list but shouldn't pin. You can as above use the registry fix to take out some of these.

No, its Windows Pro 10 - It's not 'user accessible changes' - you can turn all the settings off you want - you will still get key logged and data sold by MS

Go look in your programs list you fill find stuff - news, weather programs etc also - iv removed those.

The only windows its not on is Enterprise versions which are not publicly available

No its not - that's just user settings stuff.

Why techies are in uproar - unless you override it - you will still get 'spyed on' - because MS wanna sell your data.

Also if you have cortana its also viewing from that - you need to disable it to the point of it not working.

Okey dokey :)

No you need to do the following folks:

1) Disable all user accesible privacy options within settings

2) Download and run 'destroy windows 10 spying' - run that - id recommend advanced settings and remove any bloatware you don't want.

I removed everything it can possibly removed and it also adds M/S spy IP addresses to the hosts file to block data leaving the PC.

The keylogger you speak so highly of is actually the 'your typing and handwriting info to improve typing and writing services' that you turn off in privacy settings.

Best you disconnect from the internet then, turn off your mobile (thats tracked), not use online shopping and make yourself a tin foil hat. Don't use Google for gods sake. Oh and don't buy anything from supermarkets, just use local shops
Hows your car - got internet of things in it for the sat nav or crash assistance? Best you don't use your car, actually don't leave your house, you'll be tracked by CCTV, number plate recognition. :D

Hmmm! now on the Start list is 'My Office' app...........not something I want or expected :(

I used to have my MS Office items Word etc, they are there but down the alphabetical listing. For my convenience I have pinned a Word link to the taskbar

NB when it first updated the Start list was as it was before so either I set something differently or in the background the OS has decided something for me???

Sarcasm aside - your wrong.

It's left on by default on underlying code - why in hell your so trusting of big companies that are trying to sell your data I don't know.

If you'd seen the code - like I have, I can assure you, its left on............here is a youtuber that worked at microsoft for over 20 years confirming it:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgKJMsJ-6XU

It also says in the video if you watch it all - he removed unwanted software and it forced installed itself again ........ using up your bandwidth and did so without permission.

I don't think it's any big secret about how much data all the big vendors collect. Ms do it, google do it and apple do it. It's all there in their privacy policies and terms of use.

Ms for example - https://privacy.microsoft.com/en-us/windows10privacy

As for the unwanted features installed like candy crush, jesus 30 seconds on Google tells you how to stop that. Same with feature you can't uninstall normally, 30 seconds with powershell.

Also those videos are 1) sometimes old info sometimes wrong info. 2) the guy is annoying. 3) containing swears, edit the posts to show NSFW.

I think you COMPLETELY missing the point here - like, the point, is a dot lol.

The fact that MS is taking the 'we will MAKE YOU have software you didn't want is (1) New (2) Uncalled for (3) To far into crossing the line. (4) Taking up hard drive space i dont want it to.

The issue isn't that it can't be removed (well actually it takes some 'effort' , reg edit and 3rd party 'hacks' to remove it - as you can see in the video - average jo can try to remove it and it just installs itself again - this is wrong)

WHILE it is indeed the case companies collect SOME info - APPLE IN PARTICULAR GO TO GREAT LENGTHS TO KEEP THIS DATA PRIVATE AND DO NOT RESELL A LOT OF IT

Google is a completely different ball game - their entire business model is ad targeting - MS is trying to move from a traditional software company to be more google minded - i.e. we will sell 'you' - apple is not trying to sell 'you' its trying to make sales TO you - it CURRENTLY does not profiteer off of your personal info..............nor does it blatantly collect data in its OS - nor does it scan your personal files and send that contents data to them etc.

I think lumping apple, ms, and google into one box, shows (all due respect) a complete misunderstanding of what these companies are doing and how they are working. - they are chalk and cheese philosophy wise.

I'm no apple fan boi .......... I only moved to them after avoiding them forever in the past year - i moved because i dislike the idea of how those other companies are operating now - sure they have data on me to date - and i choose to use google maps providing my tracking data to them - but thats it now, the gravy train stops here.

Apple though are mad about keeping you and your devices private - i like that alot - hell their designs such as crazy powerful phones line up with that - they do so much like image search, etc etc LOCALLY on the phone hence requiring mega fast CPU's and memory - only siri sends data to them - or of course if ur browsing certain web type stuff.

Also its well known that even with court orders Apple cant/wont hack its own phones, because, they are THAT secure - of course other pro hackers have round ways around, but IN GENERAL they are very well fortified.

when my wife's pc installed this update it changed the location of all her picture and document files!
Normally when clicking on "this pc" all her pics and docs were there - now this list is all the "one drive folders"
Her docs and pics are all now in another "user folder" ! Apparently a lot of people are having this issue and waiting for a fix
Anyone here had this experience?

Which version of W10 is she running i.e. is this perhaps a Home vs Pro 'difference'?

Mine is W10 Pro
Compared to many mine is a bespoke setup ~ in that I have multiple HDDs with Documents folder not located on the C drive. I do not use the MS "Pictures" folder (as far as I can tell it has nor moved) for anything important and have never set up the "One Drive" service. My image files are all on three independent HDDs

In other words very little by way of personal data is on the C drive including my MS Outlook pst folders.

Have you got a link to the "Apparently a lot of people are having this issue and waiting for a fix" ???
