That is an old article from October last year, I think you'll find it was posted earlier in the thread around the time the article was dated. All cars produce higher emissions in real world conditions as opposed to the current EU derived rolling road test conditions. VW were caught cheating those rolling road tests and have admitted so. For Renault to have retested 25 cars prior to having their premises raided to have a look at their testing equipment and removal of Directors PC's it looks like Renault are suspected of also cheating. There is no indication as yet that other manufacturers have indeed cheated in anyway. But it has recently been reported that VAG has somehow falsified the CO2 emissions on a lot of their petrol engine cars as well.
The new EU Real World Emissions and Fuel Consumption Regulations don't start until the latter half of 2017, but manufacturers are already testing vehicles to meet those standards.
 
German car giant Volkswagen has said it sold a record 10.3 million vehicles worldwide last year, despite the continued impact of 2015's emissions cheating scandal.

The VW group saw sales increase by 3.8% in 2016, making it likely that the firm will overtake Toyota as the world's biggest carmaker by volume.

the $4.3bn fine means that the total costs associated with the emissions cheating scandal are set to exceed the $19.2bn the company has set aside to handle the problem.

VW has already agreed to a $15b civil settlement with environmental authorities and car owners in the US.

Initially, VW Chiefs blamed "a couple of software engineers".
Documents have since revealed (see link) that VW executive management repeatedly ordered staff to conceal or destroy any documentary evidence of the crime that was known about at the highest level in VW for 7 years. A single whistle-blower contravened his gagging order and informed the authorities.

I'm not sure if Fiat have cheated or just lied about their emissions, what I read yesterday implied they had lied. Fiat have also claimed they haven't cheated. Renault are also under investigation.
As far as VW are concerned, someone must have guessed something was up as a lot of testing would have been missed out because of the cheat device, it wouldn't take a lot to realise that the engines had been developed quicker than it would normally take.

US Obamaesque EPA is at war with anything diesel and frankly all internal combustion engines to stifle innovation and prop up their globalist pals at Tesla. First you make up impossible standards, then catch everyone. I'm not against Tesla cars which are great, but I'm not sure killing competition by EPA is the way to go. I can't wait till Trump's people get in and untangle this mess. Some things are sure to change in matter of months or even weeks.

Trump is going to make his own mess by wanting to slap a 35% tax on any vehicles shipped into the US as opposed to being built in the US. Depending on the size of a vehicle and the amount of profit in each one depends on where the vehicles can be built. Mind you manufacturers have found ways of circumnavigating these daft tax laws in the past.

Right so this is the same Obama that in 2009, injected $62 billion in federal money (on top of $13.4 billion in loans from the Bush administration) into ailing GM and Chrysler in return for equity stakes and agreements for massive restructuring. Since bottoming out in 2009, the auto industry has added more than 100,000 jobs. In 2011, the Big Three automakers all gained market share for the first time in two decades. The government expects to lose $16 billion of its investment, less if the price of the GM stock it still owns increases.

And actually if you look at the $90 billion invested into renewable energy, you'll find a significant loan to Ford, who are aiming to be the worlds leading manufacturer of electric cars.

And the EPS's work is all linked to the climate change programme, aiming to stop the US being one of the major polluters in the world, which not only affects global warming, but the health of many US citizens. Trump of course has said all this is nonsense and costs US companies so is looking to relax all the rules.

If the US under-invests in renewable energy technology, it'll be a great market for us to sell to, as they will lag behind the rest of the world, and have to import our tech.

A clever move Trumpie!

But maybe the US rust belt will make up for it, by investing in the best soot engines, to sell to a world that is rapidly losing interest in buying them. The worlds big cities are already banning dirty diesel vehicles.

I don't think there is any reason for the US companies to under-invest. I'm sure they will be encourage do to 'business' as usual and keep competing with Chinese tech and exporting.

They already found a way. Build their cars in US. The EU pretty much makes them all build in EU.

Have a good read of the facts first. You will see the corrupt climate deal was all about transferring all polluting and economy rights to china, rather than really doing anything about it. If they were, China wouldn't be sinking in smog using the most primitive coal plants, while the rest of the world is being gutted, and taxes raised for the globalists and their corporation to redistribute amongst themselves. Finally what is the deal with destroying Amazon and Asian rainforests if we really cared about climate, health and CO2. The facts show everything is just virtue signalling and big fat hoax for the major part.
