That is an old article from October last year, I think you'll find it was posted earlier in the thread around the time the article was dated. All cars produce higher emissions in real world conditions as opposed to the current EU derived rolling road test conditions. VW were caught cheating those rolling road tests and have admitted so. For Renault to have retested 25 cars prior to having their premises raided to have a look at their testing equipment and removal of Directors PC's it looks like Renault are suspected of also cheating. There is no indication as yet that other manufacturers have indeed cheated in anyway. But it has recently been reported that VAG has somehow falsified the CO2 emissions on a lot of their petrol engine cars as well.And Ford and several others as well. Wouldn't surprise me at all.

Trump is going to make his own mess by wanting to slap a 35% tax on any vehicles shipped into the US as opposed to being built in the US. Depending on the size of a vehicle and the amount of profit in each one depends on where the vehicles can be built. If the US under-invests in renewable energy technology, it'll be a great market for us to sell to, as they will lag behind the rest of the world, and have to import our tech.

But maybe the US rust belt will make up for it, by investing in the best soot engines, to sell to a world that is rapidly losing interest in buying them. The worlds big cities are already banning dirty diesel vehicles.

Right so this is the same Obama that in 2009, injected $62 billion in federal money (on top of $13.4 billion in loans from the Bush administration) into ailing GM and Chrysler in return for equity stakes and agreements for massive restructuring. Since bottoming out in 2009, the auto industry has added more than 100,000 jobs. In 2011, the Big Three automakers all gained market share for the first time in two decades. The government expects to lose $16 billion of its investment, less if the price of the GM stock it still owns increases.
And actually if you look at the $90 billion invested into renewable energy, you'll find a significant loan to Ford, who are aiming to be the worlds leading manufacturer of electric cars.
And the EPS's work is all linked to the climate change programme, aiming to stop the US being one of the major polluters in the world, which not only affects global warming, but the health of many US citizens. Trump of course has said all this is nonsense and costs US companies so is looking to relax all the rules.
